Was just there last week. Water definitely is cloudy, but it's a nice shade of turquoise, so it didn't bother me. If you want to snorkel right from the beach, you will be disappointed. If you just want to swim/float/play/relax in the water, you'll be fine.

I was there last week and would describe the water as turquoise, generally clear. It's not a great place to snorkel directly in front of the beach anyway. There are far better places for snorkeling and scuba through tours. FYI - there is a Red Sail tour desk located in the Hyatt lobby, and other tour operators located down on the beach.

Smile Hyatt Regency Aruba - In May 2010

Hello we are booked for a week in May using the "Next Big Thing" awards, I am curious do you know if we will be charged a resort fee? When I made the reservation through Hyatt / Diamond they put me on hold and called the hotel to ask and were told no. But after reading everyone's posts I am concerned that I might have to pay some % of the room fee. And with the rooms costing approx. 375-500 per night (during our week) this can get expensive. Please advise if you know. Thanks, D. (in Virginia)

Officially the T&Cs are silent about resort fees on award stays. However, in practice, most properties will waive them for Diamonds - sometimes with a gentle prodding. YMMV - but good luck.

I used some NBT awards here in Feb and was not charged a resort fee here.

Next Big Thing.

It was a promotion to earn free nights at Hyatt.

Incidentally, I completed an award stay there over Easter and was not charged any fees (resort, taxes, or other). By the way, if you plan to use the casino, ask at the front desk for money-match coupons ($10 match on certain bets). Free money.

Talking Thanks

I should have known....That is what I am using for my stay in May. Since they extened the deadline to use them for Diamond Members (as long as you called in advance). Good to hear you were not charged a resort fee. Thank you for the tip about the casino vouchers...we do plan to partake in that, so I will be sure to ask at the desk. Any other tips are welcome.

Thank you all!

Tip: The mechanism to obtain free wifi for Diamonds is a bit confusing. Without divulging the info, just be sure to ask about it at the front desk while checking in or during your stay if you anticipate using the benefit.

On the grounds, there are several exotic birds in cages. The gray African parrot closest to the lobby will say "hello," "bye-bye" and "hola." S/he also will make several whistles, including the "charge!" and "wolf" whistles.

Went last year and had a great time. Stayed on the Regency Club floor. Separate check in,Free continental breakfast, wine and appetizers and private concierge to make dinner reservations. Only downsize is all the balconies are step out unless your in a suite. All the locals are great. Going back in October.

Question Question

Just curious what do you mean by All the balconies are step out unless you are in a suite? Sorry but not sure what stepout means and why this is a downer.

Thanks,
D

Stepout typically means the balcony is narrow and only big enough to step out on, not sit down.
