Airport Transportation
The following thread and its wiki provide all the information one needs to know about taking a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport: Catching a Taxi at BKK and general Thailand taxi discussion [SEE WIKI FIRST] The wiki discusses the breakdown of taxi fares from the airport to central Bangkok where Grand Hyatt Erawan is located, and addresses the possibility of being slightly overcharged by a taxi driver.
Alternatively, Grand Hyatt Erawan offers airport transfers in its own fleet of silver Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-class sedans. The prices of these service are S-Class THB 3,300 (net) per one way transfer (per post 1976) and E-Class THB 2,500 (per post 1975) to or from Suvarnabhumi Airport. Guests using this service will be greeted by a representative at the airport, assisted with their luggage, and escorted to the waiting car.
For an additional charge, the hotel can also arrange "Fast Track" (VIP lane) immigration clearance, as well as the option of being met at one's arrival gate by a buggy and escorted through Fast Track immigration. This service is available for THB 1,600+ 7% vat per person, or THB 2,400+ 7% vat per person to include Golf Cart and porter services.
AOT (and perhaps other companies) also provide transfers from and to the airport. Various vehicle types are available at different price points: Camry (THB 1,200 one way), Mercedes E-Class (THB 2,400 one way).
I always use http://www.limousine.in.th for my car needs in BKK incl airport transfers. 1050 THB from BKK to the city, 900 THB city to BKK (incl tolls).
UBER no longer operates in Thailand. Instead, use GRAB. Similar to UBER, prices will vary. On my trip, I was able to get a GRAB for 364 THB from BKK.
Taxi should run between 400-500 THB. If going from the hotel to BKK, the hotel will quote 500 THB. I had to wait for a few taxi's as the first two didn't want to do unless I paid 750 THB.

Do such suites still exist post-renovation? If so, I would expect that they're only given as upgrades when the hotel is extremely full and must put some people into the higher level suites.

The hotel often has very high occupancy, so upgrades to higher suite categories do happen.

It was very nice whatever it is.
We were upgraded into the suite but the hotel wasn't very full at the time. A personal celebration weekend and the hotel treated us very well although staff wished my better half a happy birthday enough that she wondered (and was concerned about) what I planned.

On another note: spa cottage stay notes
The spa cottage isn't cheap but it's one of the most written about luxury accommodations in Asia. We just wanted to check it out for the weekend and did.
- Nice to have the pool right at your front door but the noise doesn't carry back to the cottage. Tucked in away nearer to the jacuzzi.
- spacious 100 sqm with a huge bathroom/spa room with standalone bathtub. A comfortable sized bedroom and a patio area (not so suitable for tanning or sunbathing).
- not so business friendly and hard to find plugs. Maybe I would ask for an extension cord next time.
- TOTO washlet was a nice feature (somewhat rare outside of Korea and Japan).
- you can choose to have breakfast in GC, room service or their restaurants. We did poolside with their set menus (included in the room price).
-minibar was a full sized fridge stocked with yogurt, milk and freshly made juices and water. It says complimentary minibar on the cottage description but didn't find any alcohol in the room and didn't bother asking either.
- Very busy as I'm guessing the hotel sold group packages to HK and Mainland tourists. The pool was a babysitting pit for their children and noisy. The hotel should have a lifeguard to prevent children from jumping in. They're not listening to Aussie and European tourists who shake their heads or give a finger wag.
- Airport roundtrip car service was done in a modern, nice S500 and the AOC agent was waiting to guide us to the car even though we were delayed 2 hours from Shanghai. The only foible was the driver didn't know what gate we were to be at on the way back. Had to creep slowly til we found the EK Gate 9 sign. Poor communication between guest relations and the driver I guess?
- special commendation to our Spa cottage Host Monthira Kledchean who also waited for us to arrive on Friday night. A very sweet and capable Host who was always willing to help and made our weekend trip a pleasure.

I satyed here last week, staff were great. I don't know if I got an upgrade, but I had a corner room overlooking the pool on a mid level, so the NW corner (the view to the East from the lifts was not very good, so I guess it was one of the better ones from a view standpoint), but I was perfectly happy with in.
I rolled up with a rental as I was down the coast and wanted one to explore the countryside, to the shock of the staff that a westerner was nuts enough to drive in Bangkok (but driving back to the airport on a busy weekday morning was 'interesting', and I am still amazed I no one didn't hit me, and I did need a stiff drink after that), and was impressed with the front of house staff with the tablet checkin setup they have at the door, who wisked me up to the 17th floor to complete the checkin.
The GC was nice, a step above the ones in North America, probably the free booze being a big factor here, but the staff did start with attentive service the first hour of evening drinks, then lost interest. But not really an issue as I don't expect to get waited on hand and foot, and have no issue serving myself!

All the LCD screens on the shopping centre were a bit annoying with the NW corner room when the sun went down, but the blackout blinds worked a treat, and the room was well sound insulated from the outside world so I slept like a rock until midday after watching the Rugby World Cup until 5am....

Just wish to rave about my last few stays at the GH Erawan. Its neither the newest, most modern or most attractive Hyatt property, but the staff, quality, service and overall comfort is just top notch. Its simply just such a great hotel with fantastic staff and comfort.
There will be a PH just a few minutes away from the GH Erawan next year, but they will have a hard time competing the GH Erawan at their prices. Its just that good.

I've used a DSU when there was the Grand Suite King use to be listed in November last year so just wondering before I book

The Grand Executive suite is a higher category. You can try to apply a DSU by contacting the hotel directly, but central reservations cannot upgrade you unless the entry level suite category (Grand Suite) is available.
