Looking at staying at GH Kauai next year. We are considering a Grand Club Room or a Deluxe Ocean View Room. First question, what is the "view category" of a Grand Club Room? Second question is regarding room location. Looking at a picture of the GH, where would the Deluxe Ocean Rooms and the Grand Club Rooms be located? Third and final question is regarding room cleanliness, in need of renovation, etc. The reason I ask is that on some other websites, there are alot of mixed reviews regarding the conditon of the GH Kauai rooms. Can anyone offer an honest insight on this?

Check Tripadvisor...there are pics as recent as this month of the rooms...don't seem to be any complaints...also, have a look through flickr...there are usually a lot of pics there as well.
The GH Kauai doesn't have a separate Club Floor. The Grand Club rooms could potentially be anywhere in the hotel, but they are usually in the Poipu Wing I believe. I have always received a full ocean view room when I reserved a Grand Club Room.
Can anyone tell me the hours the Grand Club is open? I always have such a hard time adjusting to the time difference and hope they open really early for breakfast!

GC opens at 6 AM and closes at 10 PM (not sure about the closing time but for some reason I think I remember it was 10). We are always there for the opening though .

In response to courcoison's very good trip report, and having stayed in maybe 20 different suites here, I would just remind readers here that suites on levels 1 and 2 are definitely inferior view-wise to the higher fllors, and due to the layout of the hotel are inconvenient as well to get to really any facilities other than tidepools or the beach/swim area. The best floors are 6, then 5, then 4 in that order, for views, and 3/4, 5 then 6 in that order for access. Floor 4 is a very nice compromise though if you are near the grand club central stairwell 5 or 6 are convenient, as well. I really like 6016, 6024, 6028, 5016, 5024, 5028 and 4016, 4024 and 4028. The 28's are deluxe ocean suites and the 16's and 24's are standard ocean suites. All will connect to an adjoining room.
If you have kids floor 3 is nice because there is direct lawn access and you still get a sliver view of ocean. Floor 1 same lawn access however no good view.
It's been a few years since our last stay. Does the Grand Club still have an open bar? In the room descriptions on the Hyatt site, it calls out "no host" cocktails but reading most of this thread, it sounds like other than some menu changes, the bar policy has not changed.

Aloha, I am relatively new to Hyatt, but have been a loyal FTer for many years. My wife and I are planning a trip to Kauai and originally had considered the new St Regis, but have really loved the reviews of the Hyatt.
We love, spread out lower rise resorts like the Four Seasons Hualalai and relaxed Hawaiin hospitality. I love the look of the lagoon - is it really as much fun as it appears to be?
Any recommendations on the Hyatt? Specific room types you would recommend? Comparisons to FS Hualalai?
Even though I'm s *W Plat too and love the Princeville resort and north shore area, I always make it a point to stay at the GHK as well whenever I visit Kauai.
If you had to stay at one of these, which would you stay at?

The St. Regis isn't open yet, but the location is fabulous. You're probably not going to go wrong with either. As you've probably read elsewhere, the Princeville area is more remote, wetter, and has more vertical landscape. The Poipu area, where the Hyatt is located, is sunnier, has more interesting and upscale restaurants (IMHO) and shopping (mall, big box stores). Both areas have plenty of activities and beaches.
I've not stayed at the St. Regis, but I did have dinner there when it was a Westin. It does have a great view for those rooms facing the ocean, but my wife and I were surprised that it looked like most rooms did not have balconies. One of the reasons we love the Grand Hyatt is that theye have nice balconies where you can sit and read or just enjoy the lovely weather.
