Hyatt Place Bayamon - REVIEW - MASTER THREAD

Dear FlyerTalkers,

We are very excited to announce plans for Hyatt Place Bayamon and El Tropical Casino, marking the introduction of the Hyatt Place brand in Puerto Rico. The hotel is expected to open in the first quarter of 2014, and will be a seven story building offering 156 guestrooms with an adjoining casino, free standing restaurant, and bar. The hotel will be located next to the 42 acre Luis A. Ferre Science Park and close to the city’s largest shopping mall. We currently have more than 160 Hyatt Place hotels in operations in the United States, with more than 35 under development throughout Europe, the Caribbean, China, Latin America, Southwest Asia, and the Middle East.

Happy and Safe Travels!

-Nick B.

Great!

Great to hear this news. Thanks for sharing.

You have any update on Hyatt's in Costa Rica. I understand Hyatt was planning to open a hotel there in 2013.

Thanks

The Hyatt Place Bayamón & El Tropical Casino opened for business today 12/4/13-- nearly two years after ground was broken on the $50 million hotel development.

The 156-property in the heart of Bayamón aims to serve diverse markets including: medical tourism; sporting events and concerts; and business travel tied to the many companies and manufacturing operations in the region.

The hotel restaurant is an Applebees.

Hyatt is back in Puerto Rico with 2 more properties scheduled to open in 2014.

Hyatt Place Bayamón Opens

Good Afternoon Flyertalkers,

The opening of Hyatt Place Bayamón marks the first Hyatt Place in the Caribbean and the return of Hyatt-branded hotels to Puerto Rico after a seven-year absence.

Hyatt Place Bayamón is a convenient option for guests visiting the island’s business districts or island medical facilities, and Plaza Del Sol shopping mall, Bayamón’s 18-hole golf course, and Paseo Lineal Recreation Park with a nature trail that leads to Punta Salina Beach are all located nearby.

Stayed here 12/9. Very nice but pretty standard Hyatt Place. The lobby bar/breakfast area seems larger than average. Staff really nice. Breakfast was the standard HP fare.
There seems to be a lot of commerce (restaurants/shopping) nearby.
The hotel itself is next to a combination casino/Applebee's. Your need to get a ticket to park and park in the garage attached to the casino, but the hotel validates your ticket (which is nice).
My only complaint is the directions to the hotel from SJU on Hyatt's website are incorrect. I had to drive back and forth and ultimately guess on where the hotel was. I pointed this out to the manager, so hopefully it will get changed soon.

How is the driving and traffic between this hotel and the ferry to Old San Juan,or the airport,or the beaches? I am thinking of trying it, b/c for the price,it looks like a great place to stay v.s others locally in the same range- but worried about traffic problems....thanks

Had an ok stay here. Was here on a weekend so the casino traffic was heavy. They do prioritize parking for hotel guests in the parking garage so that was nice. It's not super close to Old San Juan (made worse by PR traffic) but we didn't mind it. Some maintenance issues like sink separating from wall.

Received 0 Diamond recognition and when asked if it were possible to get a larger room the FD brushed us off with "the hotel was sold out" - little irksome as there were clearly revenue rates bookable online. Only reason I even asked is that the two San Juan properties (Place & House) have different categories of rooms including suites. They also appear to be priced the same online, e.g. King room and King room suite (both 8K award points). Diamond amenity not offered nor asked, so not surprising that points didn't post.

We did find a couple of good restaurants near by though, overall can't complain too much.

Just stayed here last night. A very nice HP overall, similar to the HP San Juan City Center. It's attached to the Tropical Casino and an Applebee's. No way in Hades I'm flying to Puerto Rico, land of Mofongo, and eating at an Applebee's

We were put in a nice end room, which overlooked the pool and was very quiet. Service was good all around, although the place was somewhat deserted.

I'll focus on transportation issues since someone asked uupthread. We took the ferry from Old San Juan to Catano and then caught an Uber from there. It was right around $10. There is a gated entrance to the HP and casino, but it didn't appear to be an issue.

This morning we walked from the HP to the Bayamon Tren Urbano (light rail transit), which is 1.5 km from the hotel. A scenic walk that most wouldn't do, but we never felt unsafe. We took the Tren all the way to Sagrada Corazon and then got an Uber from there to Calle Loiza in Santurce, about $6. Saved a lot of money doing the ferry (.50 each) and taking the Tren Urbano ($1.50 each).
