List of AmeriSuites Properties Converted to Hyatt Place

As has been mentioned in a variety of threads (including this one), there are two categories of Hyatt Place hotels: Those properties which were converted from the AmeriSuites brand starting in late 2005 and locations purpose built as Hyatt Places.

The general consensus is that the renovated properties are not as nice as the new-build locations. Since Hyatt doesn't make a distinction between the two on its website, I wanted to draw up a list of AmeriSuite conversions for my own reference. I thought some might find it useful, so I'm posting it here.

I took the list from an archived copy of the AmeriSuites website from late June, 2005 -- after the Hyatt acquisition and shortly before the conversions began.

I was also surprised. According to this, there are currently 166.

Assuming none of the original AmeriSuites properties have been shuttered, this suggests 22-ish new-build properties.

So it might be easier to list the newly built ones only.

Agreed. I will try to pull together this list when I can, though it is ever-changing as Hyatt adds new properties.

The advantage of looking at the AmeriSuites conversions is that the list is final ... no more hotels left to renovate.
Pocatello likes this.

I've incorporated this list into http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/7105335-post3.html - the properties marked (A) are renovated Amerisuites - those that aren't renovated Amerisuites are "blank" (they could either be "new" purpose built or renovated but not from a former Amerisuites). I tried to verify by the pictures but it can be difficult since Hyatt Place seem to use "stock" pictures although the "non - A" properties have a slightly different tone.

Anyways, if you find that I've mis-labeled any of them, please feel free to either post here or PM me to correct.

Also, it should be noted that 10-20% of the above list of properties were not converted over to Hyatt Place.

You're awesome.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^

(I know, I know: Taboo.)

I also wondered if all the Amerisuites got converted, but figured I'd missed the day that that was answered. Thanks for clarifying.

I'm not sure what became of the non-converted Amerisuites - whether they are still Amerisuites - some other "independent" hotel - or closed. It was probably either due to the ownership not wanting to invest capital for the conversion or Hyatt didn't want the locations.

Like where they would have had to replace the air handling units.

The first one of these that stuck out to me was Atlantic Beach, NC. It is now a Hampton Inn and Suites.

So most of the AmeriSuites properties transitioned starting in 2005. I know they probably needed to do some updates to make them into Hyatt Place properties -- probably most were done by 2007. So that means that most of these former AmeriSuites haven't been touched in almost 15 years.

When is Hyatt going to require upgrades to these properties? I find these properties really water down the Hyatt brand.

I'm pretty sure the Austin Airport location is a new-build and not an AmeriSuites conversion.

I know in some instances they have been replaced. There is a new hyatt place at the Atlanta perimeter for example.

I personally find the old style to be fine, but o agree sooner rather than later they will need some renovations.

Here's my list of the newish HPs that I know personally. Some of them aren't included on the list that was linked earlier in this thread.

Minneapolis Downtown (former Embassy Suites IIRC)
St Paul Downtown (in historic building)
Verona WI (near Madison)
Madison
Des Moines Downtown (historic building)
West Des Moines
Altoona, IA (near Des Moines, to the southeast)
Iowa City
Sioux Falls SD
UC Davis CA
Evanston IL
PDX (at light rail station)
Omaha at New Market
Canton OH
Cleveland Westlake

I *think* there might also be a new HP in New Haven CT
