The GM of the PHT told me that the crane accident only set back the schedule for this hotel by at most a few months. Any ideas when the opening date is now scheduled for?

Several hosts at the Andaz 5th told me that they hope to open May 2014 (soft opening). Maybe a little bit earlier.

+1 I can't imagine that the rates here would be higher than Tokyo or Paris. Though the OP is probably right that they will set a new category and also raise those, as well as Maldives and others. . .

I typically find NYC to be more expensive than most other locations. Certainly, top hotels in Tokyo are significantly cheaper than in NYC, often times less than half.

I would guess that among city PH's, the only ones that are more expensive than NYC will be Paris, Zurich, and Moscow.

PH paris can be not bad (unlike PH moscow and to a lesser degree PH zurich)

PH tokyo fluctuates, but isnt anywhere near previous highs is it?

PH NY has residences like MO. MO's ownership/history isnt best.
will PH NY owner have impact on rates either way?

Sorry, I misspoke about Tokyo. I've stayed there twice and paid less than $500 (and the yen was much stronger against the dollar then). True that Paris is generally double, and Zurich has been the same whenever I've looked at it (including a couple of times this month when I will pass).

Hotel will be located on the lower 19 floors, not sure what the view will be like. I hope the rooms will be much larger than the current rooms offered at other Hyatt's in the city.

No view to speak of I would image, the 40+ floor JW Marriott Essex House is blocking that. That's why I don't really understand the appeal this seems to have. I'm expecting extremely high prices for no view as well.....

Kind of shocking to see a premier property located on the bottom 19 floors. Isn't one of the hallmarks of a premier property the view?

It's a bit hard to run a hotel for the price that would have to paid here for the top floors......
