Yes, you should make the booking using the Gx or Ax code in the promo field. I believe it is automatically added to your stay. Still, I am eager enough for my points, I prompt the front desk to be sure that the promo is added. And if all else fails, which it seems to do a remarkable amount of time, I call after the stay has posted. The Customer Service Rep can easily add it at that time.
I'm not sure I completely understand Gx bonuses. Am I correct on these assumptions?
The only "guaranteed" way to earn/get the Gx bonus is to include the code in the "Special Offer Code" when booking.
If the code was not added during booking, the next best step is to get CS to add the code before the stay, but this is at the discretion of the agent.
If #1 or #2 is not the case, the next best step is to get the agent to add the code during check-in, but again, this is at the discretion of the check-in agent. (Will check-in agents know what I'm talking about if I ask to have a Gx code added?)
If not #1, 2, or 3, the last opportunity is to call CS and get the code added after the stay posts to your account, but again, this is at the discretion of the CS agent.
There is no way (without contacting CS) to tell if an existing reservation was booked with the Gx code.

I've never felt a need to include step 2. Step 1 is easy; step 3 is easy; Step 4 is surefire. As for front desk clerks knowing about Gx bonuses, they do at full service properties but rarely at Hyatt Places.
On a recent stay at the HR Vancouver I was handed a customer profile form. I was promised 2000 points for filling it out (it says so in big red letters right on top of the form). I submitted the form during check-out, and the agent said he had made sure to add the R2 bonus. Needless to say, the 2000 points never showed up. I've been on the phone with the diamond line a few times now, and they refuse to credit these points. One agent even called the hotel and came back saying they had never heard about such a bonus. Should I just give up on chasing these points?

I wouldn't give up but I would adapt to a different approach.
Email the GM or hotel stating you received and filled out a survey that indicated this and you have not received the bonus.
Also look for the Vancouver Stay thread and ask if anyone else has received this offer on so you can tag on a couple more people if they have done it a couple times.

I love Hyatts and everything, but it's pathetic that this thread exists. There should be no reason for it. I stayed at Hyatts 4X in the last 5 weeks, and NONE of my stays went to my account correctly (one didn't even show up).
Hyatt does so many things right, I don't understand why they don't train people better or have an easier system.

FWIW, I too got this "personal preferences survey" recently at HR YVR. I have never seen this survey offered before anywhere else. I asked at checkout how it works and they said that the Front Desk sends it off to the hotel Sales Dept who then credits us with 2k pts. The front desk clerk did not input the R2 code on my reservation nor did 2k bonus pts post to my acct when the stay posted to my GP acct. From what the front desk clerk said, it seemed like I might need to wait awhile before the survey made it through all the proper channels until the bonus pts posted. My guess is that there's a 50% chance of the points never posting, but what do I know?
I doubt GP knows anything about this survey as it seemed property specific. And front desk clerks are notorious for not knowing much about promos (although the front desk clerks at HR YVR were quite good I might add ). I'd say your best bet if you really want to chase these pts would be to call the hotel's Sales Dept. and ask where your R2 bonus is. But personally I would probably give them about 2-3 months before calling in about it. If it just takes 2-3 months to post, you are wasting your time and energy by calling in early.
G Bonuses sometimes post automatically AFTER the stay is posted
I have found on several occasions that a stay will post to my account, but not the G bonus. Thinking the bonus was overlooked, I call GPCC and they are happy to post it for me. On a recent stay, I noticed the G bonus had not posted with the stay credit and made a mental note to request it next time I called. A couple of days later, I checked the account and the G bonus had posted without any intervention on my part. I now realize that perhaps I have jumped the gun in calling to request a bonus that might have posted automatically within a day or 2. In the future, I'll give GP more time to post all the points associated with a stay.
Hyatt is so inconsistent with postings, it's no wonder I prefer Starwood. My credits usually post within 24 hrs of my stay. What is the deal with Hyatt? I can't imagine that it's that tough to get the stay credit in my account quicker.
I need help with the following scenario so I do it correctly.
I have a stay booked on 12/29 at Hyatt Vancouver.
I also have booked a seperate stay for 12/30 for 3 nights, using GP points, for the same hotel.
I need the stay on 12/29 to count as an eligible stay as it will take me over the 25 stays threshold to keep Diamond Status for all of 2010.
Should I check out on 12/30 and then check back in same day?
Do I run any risk of my stay on 12/29 not counting as a stay before the 12/31deadline, because I have my points stays from 12/30 for 3 nights, checking out on 1/2/10?? Does that make my whole 4 night stay look like one stay with a check out of 1/2/10??
Should I check out on 12/30 and then check back in same day?
If you want to do it the safe and easy way, then yes you should check out on 12/30, request a folio, and then check back in. Otherwise you can take a gamble and see what happens and worst case is you'll just hafta call GP and get it straightened out early next year. I'm almost certain they will work with you to give you Diamond though, manually if they have to. I think this happened to another FTer over the past couple years and everything worked out fine.

Because of a new corporate travel policy, my next stay at a Hyatt has been booked through our corporate travel agent using a corporate rate. The total amount for the accommodation alone comes to around USD3,500. Am I right in thinking (as per this thread) that I'll get diddly-squat from Gold Passport for this business?
Cheers,
B
