The T&Cs clearly state, "You may not take part in the Promotion with more than one email address." So if Expedia finds out, they might cancel all your bookings. But hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained...
But if I put each expedia account under my various friends' names, I'm not considered to have violated the T&Cs right since they are just helping me to book the room?

Correct. However, you need to provide a valid credit card number which has not been used on Expedia before with each booking. This applies even if you book a hotel for less than £20 and so the total to pay is £0 - the booking will still be rejected without a valid credit card in the booking. Your friends therefore need to trust you with their credit card numbers even though you won't be putting a charge through.

Hi
I am new here and thank you first for this useful infromation

I just wonder how long it will take to get 40pounds voucher?
I registered a new account at expedia, referred to one 'friend', regiserred another account at expedia and used 20pounds voucher. But still have not received any 40 pounds voucher.

Thank you again

I got the voucher a day or two after my friend made the booking.

BTW, welcome to FT!

thanks much. Can I use my own credit cards instead(1 CC for each a/c that has not been used on Expedia before) instead of my friends since I'm the one staying? Or it has to be my friends' CC?

Yes, doesn't seem to matter to Expedia as long as the number and expiry details are OK.

This is turning into a strategic conundrum and moral dilemma of sorts. Their buggy code is preventing more than one of the GBP40 vouchers from being used, so you can wait and hope they fix it, or do labor-intensive work-arounds with multiple accounts and credit card numbers that risk getting you the fraudster treatment or at least being cancelled.

If you wait, though, you risk having the deal pulled or, more likely, restricted in some serious way (such as requiring a minimum purchase or stay, thus greatly diluting the value of the vouchers). If all you have is codes at that point, then you're hosed, whereas paid bookings almost certainly will remain in place.

We're also hearing lots about being limited by buggy code but precious little about human oversight or action. It's as if they're trying to run the promo without people.

Because of that and the very real possibility that no-show bookings could cause the deal to get pulled (if people referring themselves doesn't do it first), I'd have to give a slight edge to the work-around approach. Sharing any informational tidbits or experience there would be helpful.

* * *

As always, PM with e-mail address if you want a GBP20 code.

ummmm, I am really curious how you could make the total become 0. Everywhere I looked, there was always extra taxes and fees even when the room rate could be reduced to 0 by the voucher. In other words, if I want to do the "no show" in advance, there is a cost involved.

I think it comes out to be about 1gbp, IME.

That's not much, but as you state, does require a charge.

My lowest was just over $1 for an upcoming 2* night in downtown Las Vegas. It might be to our advantage that they charge something to the card, as it greatly reduces the chances of messing with completed bookings if something was paid and charged (in case something should happen with the promo). Maybe that's a bit paranoid, but I remember Fatwallet deals where some piece of merchandise would be ordered on mistake pricing from a merchant. Orders with zero balances would stand a much higher chance of getting cancelled out than orders with some balance. I guess having a credit card company involved as a third party subjects the transaction to those rules and laws governing them, so it's a lot harder to back out when money has been paid for something.

I also notice Discover has a virtual card number service but Expedia UK doesn't take Discover. Some Visa/MC issuers like Citi do, but apparently Chase isn't one of them.

The $64 (literally, I think) question is how to make 2 or the 40GBP vouchers work from the same Expedia account. By design it won't allow more than one GBP20, and it looks like the same design also blocks more than one GBP40 even though with those type you're supposed to be able to redeem more than one. I have run into the same problem others have reported.

You can sign up another acct. and use another credit card to get around it, and that's what I think everyone's doing until they get the problem fixed.

Also the T&C say not good at hilton group.

I just did a dummy booking and it looks like it accepted the code.

Anyone think they would remove the rate and charge in full in the future?
