I'm going to stay on them the legit way for a few more days. My hotel needs are not until December.
With all due respect, I think this was an ill-advised decision on your part. Especially if the person you used for your referral was a sham. Calling attention to the fact that mischief is afoot is far more likely to cause the whole promotion to collapse (and/or additional restrictions to be imposed) than it is to result in a favorable resolution with respect to your desire to avail yourself of the second referral bonus.

Totally disagree with that suggestion
I am only contacting them about my legitimate referrals where the friend made a real "for profit" booking for Expedia. My 19GBP bookings by friends will not be brought up ir discussed.
Based on the wording of their email to me, I believe they know they screwed up and are covering their tracks by making sure the 40 GBP are issued for "legitimate bookings" by my friends.
Of course, in 48 hours, I may join the gang in the multiples. I wil report my success and phone call results with the group.

Wow, next thing they'll want faxes and telexes. And here I thought the work-arounds would be a lot of work. Hopefully as a result of yours and other valiant efforts they'll just fix the durned programming problem (even though the programmers in India probably cost more per hour than the CSRs in India!)

Quick question: as the referring person seeking the £40 off voucher, do I first need to create an expedia.co.uk account or am I supposed to start by filling in my contact details without having a .uk account?

I don't have an Expedia.co.uk account but I've been able to receive 40 GBP vouchers.

While the promotion currently works without the referring person having an expedia acccount, I strongly advise against going that route.
Why would an individual who does not even have any experience with Expedia.co.uk want to tell all his friends about it? Surely, it makes more sense for Expedia.co.uk users to want to tell their friends about this.
The more attention we draw to this deal, the shorter it will last (in its current form)!
May I ask what anyone is doing to skirt the whole UK resident requirementor whatever? I was going to make a couple of bookings but I don't quite get that portion.....Can someone maybe PM me and tell me what the deal is please? Thanks.
Is it really worth screwing up something that could be worth 1,000's of pounds to many people just because 1 of your vouchers didn't work?
That's not at all what ingy is talking about. He's referring to the fact that you can't use more than one 40 GBP voucher that you get from referring others using the same account/credit card. The T&Cs clearly state that you can receive up to 10 of those 40 GBP vouchers, so he is questioning why we can't use more than one of them w/o creating more accounts.

FWIW, I can verify now that if you try to re-use a credit card across different accounts it'll cause you to suddenly get the "this voucher has already been used" error, even if it "took" the voucher and was looking like it'd go through up to that point. Not having them "remember" the card on the original account won't help.
Oddly, though, it "stores" the voucher in the account if you try to re-use the credit crad and it generates the error message. If you come back with a credit card that hasn't been used yet and apply the "stored" voucher to the same booking, it works.
Of course, none of this would be necessary if they would fix the problem preventing multiple redemptions of GBP40s. Work-arounds can be quite labor-intensive.

With more FTers heading to places like Spain on the DL deal, though, I'd really suggest checking this deal out!

A moment of clarity
Ya know, I can just envision a PowerPoint presentation in the Expedia boardroom at the end of the quarter or year where a really pressured CEO gushes "And our UK site had the most successful launch and most rapid increase in user accounts in the history of travel websites in the UK! While other sites were just plodding along we were breaking new records."
Could it be some highly paid exec is being held too much to a particular metric and there's a bit of benign neglect with how things have gone?
For an example in another industry, I notice how Lowe's likes to turn on the spigot with "project starter" coupons ($10 off $50 or, if lucky, $10 off $25), especially toward the end of a quarter. I can picture some megabuck CEO whose 24-hour obsession is to be able to report better results (faster growth, slower slowdowns, etc.) than Home Depot. He might be able to blame some things on the bad economy, but he loses his job if Home Depot can outrun him for 2-3 quarters in a row. It can create some perverse incentives, especially when the CEO knows what metrics the board tends to look at. A sharp director could call him out or question whether it's really "quality" top-line growth, but that doesn't always happen in real life.
I wonder if there isn't a bit of that here. Get those bookings in before 6/30!
This is absolutely how it works. The $40 coupons will be classified as 'marketing expense' and included in the same pot as TV adverts etc. The full cost of the rooms ($20 or $40) will be treated as 'sales'. Expedia UK will be showing a sharp rise in sales, albeit offset by an increased marketing budget meaning stagnant profits!

Thumbs up?
I need a hotel for 4 nights next week. Is there something here that can help me and an FTer posting here?? I am only looking for one night thru this idea.
PM me. But, please give me the terms of the program. Thanks, Jan B
Argh! I didn't get the referral bonus for one I sent a couple weeks ago. I didn't know there was a password involved, as one was never emailed to me, and as such I didn't log in before entering my friend's email addy. I guess that's what denied me the pleasure of 40-quid savings.
Looks like I get to double dip on a couple of accounts. 1 20 quid booking = 2 40 quid bookings. Haven't tried to see if they both work, though. I ignored this promo for a while, but I'm glad to be on the wagon. I think that the XP UK programmer was a former employee of hotel club!
