Just returned home from stays at:
Banff & lake Louise's grand old dames "Castles in the Mountains"
I've stayed at both these properties many times and IMHO they are not comparable, LL ain't no castle. Sure it's a large building but it's so ugly compared to the historical fairmonts. I know Fairmont had limited time to design it since I believe it was a last minute addition built to be open for the 1988 Calgary olympics but it has no true character and super small rooms. Along with the Chateau Whistler, just another big building IMHO.
Banff Springs on the other hand is a true Castle, I don't even live 100 miles away from it but stay there 3-4 nights a year just to get out of the city. Back in the 1920s ppl use to arrive with $50,000 bank drafts for their 3-4 month stays It's not as regal as in the past but I still truly love it, even though the decor/furniture hasn't changed since the 1920s too
Just came back from my holiday in the Rockies and must say my stays couldnīt have been more enjoyable:
Spent four days at Jasper Park Lodge and was given a nice deluxe room on the 2nd floor of the main buildung with a large patio which had a great view over Lake Beauvert and Mt. Whistler, very much enjoyed sitting out there in the evenings, having dinner and watching the sun go down. All staff I encountered, from the front desk to housekeeping, were very friendly and helpful, I really had the impression the employees very much enjoy working at JPL which, in my opinion, really does make a difference.
Spent the next two days at Lake Louise and really had an incredible stay. Was upgraded from a Gold room Lakeview to a very spacious 500 sqf. Gold Jr. Suite Lakeview (sitting area, minibar, large flat TV, desk and a fantastic view over the lake). While the hotel was terribly busy (fully booked + loads of tourists), staying on the Gold floor (located on the 7th floor) really was a most enjoyable and relaxing experiencce. The staff also couldnīt have been more friendly and helpful, both during my stay and in arranging my activities beforehand.
Overall I can highly recommend both hotels and will definitely come back.
Many thanks to edmonton2001 (and nyx.t2t) for sharing their booker IDs, was very much appreciated!
Will someone please, please, please PM me with a booker ID number. We're planning a trip to the Banff area and any hotel discounts would be most appreciated.
The laziness of the people on this thread is getting to be unbearable and starting to clutter the thread
READ THE ORIGINAL POST FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO OBTAIN A BOOKER ID!
Hm, we are a bit condescending, aren't we? The first post does indeed state how to get a code but not who to get it from, because someone (you!) edited it out.
You may know who on this board to approach, I may know and many other people may know but someone new to the board, confronted with (at today's date) a seventy-three page thread can surely be excused if they do not know.
Anyway, it is not for me to volunteer other people's identities, but it is indeed the case that a few moments looking at the early post should be enough to identify a couple of people who will help out. In one case, think Alberta. In another, think Big Apple (tho' that last one is a bit of a red herring).
