You should be able to double on any two cards.
Make sure you are playing regular blackjack and not one of the weird variants.
I would walk away after I was told I couldn't double on any 2 cards.

You data point would be more helpful if you told us at what casino you saw these new rules.

On a 3/2 game you should never take even money on a blackjack. This only increases the house edge and this is why they allow it. On a 6/5 game (I'm assuming this is) it would be to the players advantage to take even money for a sure thing because the payout is much lower for a blackjack. Of course if a player has any knowledge at all about blackjack, they would not even play a 6/5 game especially with other restrictions like only allowing double downs on 10's and 11's.

If someone is going to Las Vegas to gamble, I really would suggest going to an off strip resort. The payout for the strip resorts is much lower and by knowing the rules of thier blackjack games, you can calculate the odds. The same can be said for video poker by looking at the pay table. It's not uncommon to find games off strip with a 9/6 pay table or better. These same games on strip often pay 6/5. Which lowers the payback percentage from about 99℅ to 95℅. Also, these are games where you can calculate the odds. I can only imagine what they do to games like slots where there's no way possible to calculate the odds. It's probably not pretty.

Here is the update resort credit restaurant list at MGM Grand as of 3/27. TAP was not bad; kind of pub food. Waits for a table on the weekend. Corner Cakes is a cupcake/doughnut window. Losers Bar is new; it looked like mostly (country) bar to me and was empty when I was near there. .

Candy bars aren't a nickel any more, either.

Here's the thing... I can get a room at Palms Place during the week in late April-early May for about $110 a night including resort fee off of vegas.com.

Inflation calculators tell me that's a $60 room in 1991 dollars. That's a pretty nice room. I was a broke part time college student in 1991 so I wasn't going to Vegas back then, but on the surface that doesn't look like a horrible deal. (Palms has decent buffet prices, FWIW- $8 for breakfast buffet is about as good as you will get anywhere in Vegas.)

Hard Rock is $80 a night all-in, which would be about $42 in 1991 dollars. Also not a shabby hotel. The Westgate (formerly Hilton)? $68 a night, which would be $37 in 1991 dollars. Rio and Monte Carlo are around the same price as Westgate.

Vegas is still a place where you can get pretty outstanding value for what your money buys in hotel rooms, even if the resort fees + parking fees make the "salesroom" prices somewhat misleading (it's kind of funny seeing the resort fee be about 40% of the total hotel bill).

Check your AMEX offers for $60 back on $300 @ MGM properties in Vegas thru 6/30/17.

This should work with the Royal Caribbean/MGM deal to mitigate the daily resort fees for a 2 night stay.

I couldn't agree more. Even with the resort fees, weekday hotel prices in Vegas are a steal compared to just about any other US city. You can stay in 4* resorts in Vegas for less than the cost of a Best Western in many towns. Yes, it would be nice if they stopped playing games and just quoted the all-in price up front, but no one is going to be the first to do that and have their prices "look" higher than the competition. Besides, Vegas is all about games and if you're not capable of the basic math required to add the resort fee to the total bill, this may not be the town for you

Weekend prices (and some weekday ones) are seasonal and depend on conventions as well- they are more expensive but if you avoid the worst weekends the rates aren't bad. It's not unreasonable for that Palms Place room I mentioned to be $140 or less all-in during low season on a weekend.

RC resort credit

Hey! Lurker on these boards for awhile; first time poster. I clicked the link for the RC offer and booked a two night stay (and used my AMEX so will hopefully get that credit, too.) My question is, there was a discount on the room when I booked. Is the $150 resort credit on top of that? And if so, what is it good for besides the restaurants that Renard posted?
Thanks!

Yes, the 150 is credit you can use at spa and restaurants in addition to the discount. There always seem to be a couple of exclusions as far as where it can be used but they seem to change so best to ask at check-in.

If anyone needs a backup for their August bookings while they wait for the royal offers deal, www.mycheapvegas.com has some has some decent deals with resort credits right now. MGM also finally reworded their credits so that it looks like you can use it at any MGM property.

"used at any Las Vegas MGM Resorts International destination"

Hopefully this extends to the Royal Offers too.

There is no renewal schedule. I might be extended tomorrow or it might not be extended at all. I'd make cancellable backups. If I remember correctly the last extension occurred after the it had expired...so there was a lag of at least several weeks. If I had to guess, those with early August plans for Vegas will not be able to get in on this one. This just an uneducated guess based on watching this promo for a year or so...

Thanks Renard.

Any recommendations for alternatives? Mycheapvegas is the best I've found so far. Looking to stay on-strip but other than that I'm pretty open. Preference is a property with a younger crowd and party vibes.
