It was supposedly in a version of the T&Cs before the current version was created. The current version of the T&Cs was posted prior to the first Campaign on Monday. If someone has a copy of this older version of the T&Cs, please send me a PM.

And just because the value of the room is less then $600 and you dont get a 1099 doesnt mean you are not require to pay the taxes, it just means the company is not require to issue a 1099 unless its over $600. so you might get a 1099 from LMT, then it will be on the honor system for you to report the value of the room on your 1040, due to the fact LMT does not have a SSN on you
Jupiter Bank did a promotion a few years ago for credit card customers. They sold flights for 50 cents to a different destination each day (Miami, Rome,...). The select few who were able to get the flight at the promotional price were never charged 50 cents and Jupiter did not send out 1099s. Whether "winners" should have claimed this one their taxes, I don't know.

I believe the T&C with mention of the 500 limit is posted somewhere within this thread... I know I saw it at some point

..Found this from an earlier post

"Ten arbitrarily scheduled 15-minute periods, each one cut off after 500 people have successfully completed registration. If the maximum of 500 is not reached within 15 minutes, the unused component of 500 does not carry over to the next session."

You may be on to something here. Many people would not even travel if not for $1 hotels. Even with the hotel free, money is still being spent when traveling, whether it is an airline ticket, eating out, gas, car rentals, etc. So maybe LMT got together with other travel business and this helps them all out.

It wouldn't surprise me if each hotel listed in LMT.com actually gives LMT a handful of comp rooms per year or so. Better to be listed on the site and give a commission or gift than to not be listed on the site at all.

LMT is just passing on its comp rooms to us.

I found this on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/wall.php?id=...df7b49b34f95a1)

"
The first day went off with out a hitch! There was 112 bookings made to 62 different locations world wide and the majority of these where high-end luxury hotels! --Lauren wrote at 3:39am on January 27th, 2009
"

If you believe that she works for LMT then they were way under 500 on the first day.

Very insightful! This totally makes sense! It sounds like people were able to book 5*s the first day, and then not subsequently - we all thought it was because LMT came to its senses and decided to put in some limits, but it may be that the 1 or 2 comp stays they had at the swanky places were booked the first day already. I was wondering how LMT could possibly afford this - but it turns out it is probably costing them nothing. If this theory is right, then the selection of hotels available at $1 (especially in popular spots) will rapidly deteriorate as the campaign continues.
