How are some people getting it and others not.
Is it now not a universal clock for everyone?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8330/4.3.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I watched my computer for 6+ hours last night wasting a night of my vacation. In a way I'm kinda glad they changed it to be more difficult....I no longer have a desire to watch my computer and can actually enjoy the rest of my vacation!

Best of luck to those who are still trying for the deal!

i am not particulary "token-litterate"

can someone explain it briefly? mostly, i am confused, does it mean that there still will be one, two, three times (etc) per day and that everyone has those SAME times? and, that your ip address may be given a token, or not.

or, is it that every ip address is given a token randomly for a maximum of 15minutes and your times (when you actually get the timer) might be different than others?

thanks

one more question, if it is still where everybody has the same "times' at which they might get the $1 deal, then can you please post how much time (if any) is left for everyone today, tuesday?

It finally popped up for me while I was sitting in my Embedded Systems lecture today (and for the hotel I wanted!)....however after I entered all my info and watched the videos I was told it was over...I have been hearing similar issues on the internet with people. Hopefully I will get another chance to claim a free night...

Does anyone truly understand what is going on now with the sale?
No universal times, just random on your specific IP address?
LMT site can recognize if you are on a specific chatroom or other device to monitor the sale?

Please advise.

I'm hoping in here a little late today. Can someone please tell me if and when it has run today? Is there a chance it can happen again today?

Thanks and good luck!
thanks for the suggestion, but it goes so fast, and i am apparently a "token" and "cookie" idiot. can we just get some general tips on what is going on?

like, is it 15 minutes possible per ip address, or is it only specified times for everyone, still?

and, do you need to REMOVE or simply disable reload every or c4c, and if you have those loaded on firefox and you go through IE instead, will it even matter?

last, no clue how to dispose of "cookies", unless one drops to the floor and my able pooch snags it! so, even BRIEF tidbit words of wisdom would be much appreciated on how to do that! or a PM to those of us in need might help, if anyone is so inclined.

ps i feel naievely refreshed that things might be fair again. hope i am right

enable cookies instructions

just googled "enable cookies" and got this helpful link

http://www.google.com/cookies.html

now, at the risk of sounding super cookie-stupid, we want to enable, not delete/restrict these cookies, correct????

No one has ever before asked a computer question that I am able to answer, ellenface, so thanks!

Each type of browser is slightly different, but if using IE, go to Tools dropdown menu, select Internet Options, select delete, select delete all, and wait. Some versions will ask if you wish to delete both cookies and temporary internet files. Say yes. Both of these will identify your computer.

(Incidentally, I would think that most people have dynamic IP addresses at home and static IP addresses at work, so at-home IP addresses shouldn't be much of a problem. But evidently some software enables a company to detect the stationary MAC address. Not sure if I understand this. I asked the question once in another forum but never got a direct answer.)

Anyhow, back to cookies: For Chrome, there is a toolbar icon at the top right of screen. Click on it and click on "Clear browsing data."

Similar procedures for other browser types, essentially like above (but someone will possibly come along and point out where I might be wrong on this).

On your other questions, I think we are all waiting for answers.

I feel the pain of the participants, BTW. I kept telling myself I wasn't interested in the contest, was dubious about both tax and privacy issues (what do they mean, they would have the right to publicize the winners' opinions, etc?), but then I stayed up till 11 CST, set alarm for 3:30 a.m.--and still missed it! By 8 a.m. I had given up.

Anyhow, it's a new week--may everyone have good karma.

ETA: Your new post came in as I was proofing the above. Yes, you do need cookies enabled to use the site. Otherwise, your sign-in information won't be retained while you search. But after you have exited from the site, or if you have been to another website, you might want to clear cookies, per the above. As for enabling cookies, see the above menu options on the browser. Some older IE versions use the term "Privacy settings," IIRC.

ellen - Kudos to you for your determination. I hope you get a free room one way or another.

But if you think LMT did this to "make things fair again," you will be sorely disappointed. This is just another example of them changing the rules to cover their butts because they grossly underestimated the participation. And it sounds like everything is still COMPLETELY random--just like last night--meaning that for people that do the same exact thing (open up IE and click on a random page), one person might get the timer and the other will not.

The following is on the LMT Blog this morning,
and I received it by email as well.
Of course they put a bright spin on things, but FWIW, there is now
a steady stream of winners posting success over on Slickdeals.

Subject: A message from LastMinuteTravel.com

We can confirm the promotion is absolutely still running – with week two starting on Monday and continuing through Friday. During the first 6 days of The World for $1 sale, 955 reservations were made sending 2,261 people to 230 different destinations for free.

We have massively reduced the use of robotic or other non-manual activity on LastMinuteTravel.com as it is against the terms and conditions. However, for individuals who explore www.lastminutetravel.com, The World for $1 sale is still available for a total of 15 minutes per day - no more than 3 sessions of no less than 5 minutes - covering the entire hotel inventory.

The purpose of this sale is to introduce people to our website – and the stand-out rates, availability, service and technology. We suggest instead of simply refreshing, get to know the site a little better.

Note that if you are signed up to receive email hints, the last one went out on Friday as we start a fresh new week to The World for $1 sale.

Ok, so I got through about 20 minutes ago for the first time, I have been trying since last thursday evening. Upon doing a search from the hotels page, the next screen showed a rather short video... definitely less than a minute with instructions of the promo. Then the next screen had all the hotels for a dollar I the clock showed 5:08 left (so i'm assuming I had 7.5 minutes.) I picked my hotel and was directed to the page to enter traverler information. When I was finished I think the clock down to around 4:12. I'm not sure if I was logged in already or not; but the page I got after entering the traverler's information was the login page (instead of the billing info page.) Oh....and there was no clock on this page. Anyway, I couldnt get out of this page. Safari kept on refreshing in to at after I put the proper information to log in. I even tried to create a new id with new email and pswrd. But that wouldnt even get me to the billing page. Eventually, I used the back tool on the browser to get me back to the page where you enter the traveler's info. Now, instead of the price being $4 (4 nights) ...it was $1000? I guess the promo had already ended for me.

I had to restart safari to be able to log in. It must have truncated with the promo. so close, so close. Definitely not fair.

Thumbs down

I just got in as well, and the screw jobs just keep coming.

I clicked on a random hotel, and then it takes you to a page that says the promotion has begun (it looks like the redirect "promotion is over" page). You then have to go back out to the homepage and do a search (where there is no timer). After doing my search, it pulled up a lot of hotels in NYC (plenty of 4-stars) and the clock was at almost 5:00. Thought I was golden.

I select the hotel and the first video begins. It ends and takes me to a page where I have to enter a little bit of preliminary contact information. There was a little under four minutes. Takes me to a second video. That ends with about 2:30 left. I then enter all my contact info, credit card info, and hit submit with 1:30 left. Upon hitting submit, and with 1:30 on the clock, it takes me to the "sorry...promotion over" redirect page.

This company absolutely sucks.
