A fellow Calgarian! Nice!
I agree that a certain someone (*cough* BingoWingo *cough*) is walking on thin ice and is risking the deal for everyone due to his greed to get his $15 back. Case in point, read the rules that are clearly laid out on the booking page before booking, and don't come here to whine about it and phone HotelClub and risk ruining the deal for everyone.
The amount charged to your card is clearly visible in a small box. If he didn't read this, then I suggest a new pair of glasses.

They probably didn't think of how it could be used, but still . . . .
I don't think a phone call complaining about a rez is going to do much damage.
Seeing how many rooms were sold under the promo might.
Just doing rough math, I'm sure they have lost (or will lose) millions of dollars through this promo!
One phone call probably won't hurt - but, any mention of how this code is being used, might. You're right, its not a mistake. What it is is probably the worst case of revenue management I've ever seen in a company.

Thank you op for the coupon code. I got myself 1 free room, 2 4-star hotel for only $13/night after the coupon. Not to mention the free breakfast. What a deal. \''/
this is a big scam as I called their customer service right now.
I checked my booking with them and told them I used the 50 dollar off coupon and they told me I need to pay the hotel 42.16 for 1 night when in fact I used their coupon...I am just gonna cancell it and leave it at that then.
#1 RULE of internet deals, NEVER CALL. Never, never, never call. NEVER! That will just ruin it for everyone.
I just clarified it with the hotel im staying...and I need to pay 42.24 dollars. What do u mean not clarify it with them? I thought the 50 dollars would come up to be 0.00 upon using it, now they are charging me 42.24 to pay directly to the hotel.
do you want your hotels to be charging you when you check in, given the fact that u thought that everything was already prepaid? Thats why I said, this is a scam.

The amount charged onto your credit card is clearly stated on the credit card page, and on your reciept. I've been charged the correct amount for all prepaids, and the $50 came off every time. The only time it didn't I was PRE-WARNED before booking that a certain amount (around $55) would be due upon check in, and that only $11 of my member dollars would be deducted to pay for a down-payment. I didn't like this, so I closed the page.
Please don't accuse HotelClub of "pulling a scam". The site is pretty upfront about what its charging. Out of, I'd estimate, 50,000 uses of this offer already on this thread, you're the only one who has had a problem. How you can call 1 "problem" in 50000, "pulling a scam" is beyond me.

Some peoples horizon is more or less limited to say the least.
I never had a problem with hotelclub.
Booked the Excelsior in Frankfurt for 13$, The Queen Mary for 34$, Days Inn Downtown Vancouver for 47$ (Great Hotel!) and some more.
Boo Boo to callers... even though I doubt that they dont already know people sign up several times. Might be the reason why the mainstream hotels are quiet expensive.

You'd be surprised how naive some of these companies can be. They seem quite limited technology-wise (a simple blocking cookie is the only protection they have against multiple sign ups). Any company worth their weight would stack new signups against a database, or issue unique coupon codes and make it a *bit* more sketchy to do multiple uses and abuses.
IMHO, this company is going to have a severe wakeup call when it eventually realizes what it did. Any which way you look at this, millions of dollars are being lost through this code.
