As I was saying before things got heated, I believe the cancellations were limited to a small group of individuals. There is some variable in those cancelled reservations that caused them to be cancelled; a variable that wasn't a factor in our successful, untouched reservations.
Clearly, the majority of us did not experience cancellations. For those who did, I am not sure why they did. We'll likely never find out.

Of course, HotelClub cancellations may not be entirely over yet. We still can see what they call in Afghanistan, a "spring offensive".

This is definitely a possibility. As I noted before with my cancellations they seemed to be doing it by hand. Nothing systematic, no "batch" cancellations. It played out over a week and a half.
Re-analyzing what happened to my reservations, and I will re-iterate that I am extremely careful to the point of paranoia to cover my tracks, using different credit cards, different account names, different ISPs, etc., was that one of the hotels I attempted to book didn't come back as immediately confirmed.
No problem, I thought, normally it comes back in a couple of hours when the hotel confirms, probably by responding automatically/via weblink or some other. Anyway, one day...then two...then three days pass and no confirmation. Just the link to the confirmation page which said the usual blather about the hotel has been contacted, blah blah blah.
Well, after day 3 no email ever comes, but the confirmation page link says that the hotel has failed to confirm, my CC transaction has been cancelled, etc.
Checked back on HC to see if the hotel was still available. It wasn't, for any price.
So, it has made me think that maybe HC had an issue with the hotel, maybe they loaded the wrong rates (it did seem super cheap which is why I attempted to book), and when the hotel didn't respond someone/a real person had to look at my account and deal with the hotel on some level.
It was a day or two later that the cancellations began.
Like I said before, maybe you can stay off their radar and your reservations will be fine. Or maybe this is the lull before the storm and they will invest some time and scour their database.
Any hotel that is listed as "On Request", even if it is for a date that is completely different than the date I want to book.....I avoided like the infectious disease ward at my local hospital.
I will only book "Instant Confirmation" hotels, as to reduce the possibility of any human involvement by HotelClub.

Agree completely. Stayed away from any requests. In fact, I don't think I ever looked at a hotel that had the "on request" logo. The delayed cancellation I had was with an "instant confirmation."
"# HotelClub may change the Member program rules or program benefits from time to time with or without prior notice. These changes may affect the value of Member Dollars already accumulated.
# HotelClub also reserves the right to terminate the program, or any part thereof, in any jurisdiction, at any time with or without notice, even though such termination may affect the right to accumulate Member Dollars or redeem Member Dollars. HotelClub is not liable to Members in any way for any value or benefits Members may lose as a result of any changes made to the program."
So it appears that HotelClub has every right to do what they want, though it's arguable for pre-paid bookings.
this is soleley in regards to their member rewards program and has nothing to do with confirmed bookings - i'm not aware of any country where it's possible for one party to cancel a contract simply because they please so...
Considering I have booked expensive tickets on AA/UA with fake addresses online just because they don't accept my country for online booking - I find something smells a bit foul in that excuse... All went through no probs with the airlines but hotelclub would address match for a few $$$?
To add to the mix - what sort of stays are you all getting cancelled?
I have a couple of stays, all expensive where I paid way more than the bonus money myself. All intact.
besides my private stays i've gotten stays canceled that were using local purchasing cards of my company that were using local addresses - my name is not that unique and i can't really understand why it got canceled... i've even made the bookings from different countries... i actually don't think that they are so sophisticated in tracking these bookings - as cheapskate pointed out, i believe it's a result of manual labour and pure coincidence if your bookings get canceled or not.
i've been willing to pay some serious bucks in addition to the bonus, still it got canceled. i actually don't even care if it were only a few people that got their bookings canceled, i'm expecting a reply and proper business behaviour - this is the exact opposite!
There are no reported incidents of check-in "surprises". This does not seem to be their modus operandi.
uhm... i had one if you read my posts... it's extremely unpleasant, not only because of the embarrassment but also because of the hassle to find last-minute accommodation...

Just as an aside, try to use multi-quote when replying to many messages at once. Doing them one-by-one inflates your post count as well as clogs the thread. Just a friendly tip.
