Perhaps they cancel transcations by searching IP address???
I made my reservations from at least 9 different IP addresses, and all were spaced out at least a day apart. I think they just used the CC info from the hotel purchases. My question is this: might that not be kosher with the CC companies if they are keeping the CC data from the transactions? How long can they keep the data if it is legal?
I have made 30+ reservations, all with the exact same CC, name and address, in other words, I made no attempt to cover up my crimes like some of you
The reservations were made from mid November until last week. All of the upcoming ones are still intact.
I wonder if there is any common denominator for those who sadly have had their reservations cancelled................
It is the same for me... and I suppose the same for thousand people...
Probably there was some problem (I do not know which kind) with a few people and they are going to cancel those few reservation.
A few cancellation vs thousand is "nothing"...
If they want, I am sure they can cancel ALL reservation (49$-50$) in a few hours... my name/address/c.c. n. is on 35 reservation... nobody is hunting anymone....
they know what we did and they agree with it... as I said new 30$ bonus is the confirmation...

I am absolutely sure they know what we are doing and they have not problem with that..... they can't be so stupid... (I hope!)
If they didn't have a problem with it, they wouldn't be cancelling people for "using a promotion intended for single use more than once". I think they're just stupid and don't know who to cancel, and who not to cancel.

i just want to report that my recent booking (admittedly in this case credit from a much earlier promotion) in Barcelona was successsful.
USD$50 credit against room. No need to even use a voucher!
One night in a 3* which was about 50-60% offset by the credit.
I'll post a brief review and add a link here; basically a fairly basic 3* in Barcelona, La Rambla area, with a refurbed room with a nice new bathroom and shower. I'm happy we could use the hotelclub $50 credit this time, too.
I am very happy about participating early in the other, previous Aussie promotions and hope that hotelclub can stay in business after such an abused/monthlong-free-hotels offer.
Aw, this limbo stinks. I have some good (but not unbelievable) hotelclub bookings coming up and now I don't know whether they'll be honored or not. Frankly, I bought them so I wouldn't have to spend any more time hunting for deals. If I had known we'd go through this, I probably would have used priceline (or other alternatives) instead.
Oh well. It's wouldn't be a flyertalk hotel deal without a little "drama."

So true. I have several upcoming reservations on 3 continents, I sure hope they cancel them sooner rather than later if they are bound to get cancelled.
Wow, so this is what a canary feels like as it gets asphyxiated...
I will says this slowly so that those who think that HC doesn't care and that those of us who "lost" our reservations "did something wrong":
1) They Care
2) Most of us "did nothing wrong"
(I used different acct. names, different IPs, purchased a day apart, etc)
3) HC is slow and they are doing this manually
(They seem to have a couple of people working on this and they deal with one person at a time)
4) If they get to you most or all of your reservations will be canceled.
Remember this is happening slowly and methodically and is being done by hand, being manually audited. With the small size of this Aussie subsidiary they are probably going as fast as they can. You may get lucky and avoid all this or as iahphx points out this may cause a lot of sleepless nights as the dragnet expands. Remember to do the work and have your Plan Bs worked out before you go anywhere!
As a post script I still have the reservations I noted before listed as customer requested cancellation "in process". This is the real limbo. No "official" cancelation and no refund. Hope this gets resolved. One of these reservations is a few days from now. Sure as heck don't want to show up (because as of right now my CC is paying the difference), check-in, go to my room then have the manager show up and kick me out b/c I've been cancelled. Argggh!
Well if the member dollars will really last till 2010. I will wait with my last bookings 3 month, if the dollars are still there. Chances are much better I hope
I repeat: this offer was on several forum all over the world, only on flyertalks a very few people is having problem....
It is a bit early to make this kind of "terrorism": "If they get to you most or all of your reservations will be canceled"...
Thousand of people has got their reservation without any problem, I hope it will go on this way!
So are you saying that FT is the link? Only FTers are having the problem? Since you are now an FTer, might you not be expecting a problem...and soon?
Please tell me what the heck this has to do with "terrorism"????
The fact that people all over the world have used this promo for months with no problem has nothing to do with the fact that HotelClub's investigation is recent, only the last couple of weeks.
The other fact is that yes, if they find you, most or all of your reservations will be canceled. I have seen no information contradicting this.
If you have any other data, please post it.
Remember -- something that worked two weeks ago might not work today!
This is a dynamic situation that is changing by the hour.
It does not matter that you had a reservation work in the past. It doesn't matter that your CC has been charged. It doesn't seem to even matter that the hotel thinks you are coming. Hotel Club has canceled reservations and they are canceling more by the day.
I am posting my information in as much detail as I possibly can as a warning. The data as I see it point to a methodical, if largely manual database search, which is leading to cancelations. You haven't been hit yet, great! I wish you no ill will and am happy the deal worked for you. But, if you have some reservations out into the future I will reiterate: have a Plan B.
