Hi everybody.... this is Rodi from Italy! (sorry for my English!)
It's my first post but I read you guys since some month and I wrote in other similar forums....
I was "analizing" the problem of Cheapskate, a lot of reservation have been cancelled. The strange thing is that he/she is the only one (or probably there are a very few more) that is suffering this problem.
As you know hundreds of people of this forum have used or is going to use the promo (49$ or 50$)… but this promo was posted in so many forum around the web that probably thousand of people have used it!
Thousand of people x thousand of reservation means that probably the number of reservation is huge!
How many people are suffering this problem? 1- 2… 10???? I found only one or 2 on this forum and no more on all other forums!
Probably (maybe I am wrong) it means that they are not cancelling all the reservation but a few (for any other problem?) !
I did at least 35 reservation using those promos, I have used in the past weeks at least 15 of those in hotels in Europe and all long 2009 I have the rest, no one of those (until now) have been cancelled.
Anyone else of the “thousands” is having problem? If not (or a few) it means that everything is ok....
and the new 30$ promo is the confirmation that they know!
I don't know how they found us, but they did, and they were actively searching, despite different account names, etc. Our first cancellation occurred some time after the first person posted a warning here that their reservation was canceled. At first I wasn't worried, then, BAM! an email from HC showed up in one of my accounts. I felt that in the pit of my stomach before I even read it.
My hunch is that when they "discover" more than one account they then systematically comb through their database and start axing any reservations they can. Sure some people will get lucky, and those who already had a ton of stays - bravo, I wish I had gotten a stay or two done before this happened, but, ya takes ya chances!
If after the hatcheting, you still have a reservation or two I would still have a plan B and try and get to your HC hotel before 6pm so you can cancel your reservation at plan B. I kind of get the feeling that they are playing with me right now. I can't quite explain it, because I don't want to be completely tracked, but it seems that the remaining reservations I have might have been left for a reason...either to f*** with my travel plans (keeping these might actually make things more expensive for me, you might be able to guess why) or to wait until just before arrival with a nice cancellation...Like I said, I can't explain it, it just feels wrong, like they know they are there and they are leaving them out there to dangle.
Anyway, I began posting in detail to see what to look for as it seems if they get you, that's pretty much it, the jig will be up unless you can stay with a different person each night and make sure you use their CC.
I guess the thing to do now whenever you have a hotelclub rez is to check your account a few days in advance and make sure the rez is still valid. Then double check on your day of arrival. I'd really hate to show up at a hotel and find my reservation cancelled, especially overseas.
Since I'm supposedly one of the few here who have not yet made any reservations (however have two accounts each with $49 credit still showing), does HC provide the hotel's reservation number that one can view the current status of on the hotel's own website?
My understanding, from before this promo, is that HotelClub does not tell the hotel until a few days before that you are coming. So I doubt you would be able to review reservations on the hotel website.

Thanks for the quick reply. HC must book rooms from their available inventory, but not submit name lists to each respective hotel until just a few days prior.
We booked a Disney package through Adventures by Disney that involved a stay in a Marriott (Renaissance) hotel. A few weeks before departure I tried to have my Marriott Rewards information attached to our reservation, however Adventures by Disney hadn't yet sent the hotel a name list. I called about 5 days prior to departure and our names were then "in the system". Must work the same way with HC.
all of my 20 bookings were canceled 2h ago. i had no back-to-back bookings, used 8 different credit cards(german and uk)etc. they were really precise(forgot none). i had 2 employees(names appear at the end of the emails) working on my cancelations.
so best of luck to all of you guys. this sucks. and they haven´t refunded me my money yet(well it´s just been 2h, so i´m gonna be a lil more patient).

Did you use your real name for each hotelclub account?

Just got the first refund on my credit card account. Got the full amount paid back, so they did not deduct a cancellation fee or sth. else. At least this is working.
