This guy has no idea what he is talking about. You may choose any "instant confirmation" hotels to use your member dollars on. Blue "24 hour request" hotels can also be used with member dollars, but you need to wait for hotel approval.
Additionally, you can redeem member dollars for the down payment on RoomsToGo hotels only (the balance is payable at the property).
I choose rooms that say instant confirmation. (The reservation page has changed since I last booked). It does not give me any option to use my member dollars before I enter my credit card information. It says that a deposit will be charged, usually under 20$ and the rest is payable to the hotel upon arrival. How do I use the member dollars when there is no option to use them.

its soon the 31st and the $49 offer will be over. Does anyone know how long it takes hotelclub.com to come up with another offer? I know the $20 is still good till march but the $50 will be very missed.

This is because of the last minute nature of the stays. Last minute hotels are often sold through their Ratestogo system, which works on a down payment basis. You won't have this problem for anything more than a couple days from now. 100% of those should be bookable using member dollars.

The last minute nature of this guy's stay might not be as obvious a problem to him as it is to us pros. Let's keep it civil and nor resort to name-calling. It's his loss, right?

I am crying about tomorrow, I did have reservations for this stay in Rome, but realised that they were booked for 2009! So now I cannot make new reservations through HotelClub as they cannot use the dollars.

They'd be insane to do this again, but hey, they haven't pulled it yet so perhaps they just have more faith in people than they should. I hope they do another promotion, this is great!

I am the OP, so I know well how many free nights can be obtained through this promo. Some people are harder to convince than others. And so be it - more rooms for us.
