I've stayed at hotels the last 2 nights. Both a Radisson and a Ramada have not asked for the 'coupon' (though I've had them printed out) and both have given me free upgrades!
I was asked to hand over the voucher in Amsterdam last weekend. No problem as I had it with me.

International properties almost always demand the "voucher". I once had an Orbitz booking where there was no "voucher" and my Peruvian hotel demanded this mysterious piece of paper. Eventually, I printed out my confirmation email and this was suitable. Vouchers are so 1963...

These are a great way to save some money but mostly at lesser known brand of hotels from what I have seen so far.
The top chains can be even cheaper using certain corp codes and discounts. With the way the worlds economy is going I would hang off booking anything if you are planning on travelling next year as I suspect there will be some hefty discounting going on in the new year.

I've only redeemed for properties that work out to be free or nearly free. That can't be beat, no matter how much discounting takes place, unless the new year brings hotels that actually pay me to stay there!

Hi guys, I booked a hotel in L.A for two nites in Jan, but there's a plan change and I'm not coming. Do you know what to do to avoid the cancellation fees?

Agreed, but for someone who does as many (or more) BRGs than me...occasionally the "voucher" sites have the absolute lowest rates for some properties, so if you wanted to stay there anyway, that's occasionally the best way to do so!

Do absolutely nothing. If the hotel is already prepaid, they won't charge you anything additional for not showing up.
I can answer that. They don't have your credit card number. They have no way of obtaining it.
And what if...
Quote:
Cancellation fee of EUR 15 if you cancel after the confirmation voucher has been issued.
Standard Room (Hot Buffet breakfast included) - Single: EUR 29.25 cancellation fee if you cancel 2 days before check in or later
or if you do not show up
or if you check out earlier.
What makes you so sure that the hotel doesn't have my credit card number (as mentioned before, I used an imaginary but valid credit card number). What would happen if I do not show up? Normally the hotel would debit my credit card, wouldn't they?

If you used HotelClub credit, the total amount has already been sent to the hotel. They can't debit you for any more than they already have. The hotels themselves DO NOT know you are using any HotelClub coupon - they're paid the negotiated rate, well before you even step foot on hotel property.
Say you booked a $48 room, using your credit. Your total due is $0.00. The hotel is purchased by HotelClub. The hotel is happy and satisfied. If you cancel well before, then HotelClub will ding you for $15 (on your card, as I understand), but refund you the member dollars. If you do a no-show, then the hotel will charge you the full room rate - meaning they'll keep the money that HotelClub has sent them (which would usually come from your credit card, but in this case, does not). The hotel never recieves your credit card information. This is how vouchers work. The vendor pays for blocks of rooms months and months in advance, and sells them to you at a premium. The hotel has already been paid, and if they haven't, they are paid on the day of stay using a HotelClub Corporate credit account.
