Great rate for the Renaissance Sharm El Sheikh - $29.25 for most of December.

Add 7.11 in taxes - free cancellation.

Not the safest place to be right now but also not exactly Mogadishu.

I'd like to go there to scuba dive some day. But like to know it's more secure/safe first.

One of only two airports in Egypt major airlines won't fly into.

With the local airport being closed, the should have lots of empty rooms even though a lot were probably prepaid or part of package tours.

local airport is not closed, this happened because Russian are banned to fly there, and many hotels are empty now

http://sharm-el-sheikh-airport.com/flight-status.htm planes are still flying

Sorry, I meant closed to traffic from some countries by authorities in those other countries. IIRC it was more than just Russia with for example BA flights being cancelled.

Just spend a bit more and stay in Marsa Alam and visit Luxor too.

Incidentally I am at SAW right now bound for SSH on Pegasus who are still flying. Seat map suggests 67 of 180 seats are occupied with 2 hours to go until departure.

I'm due three weeks at the Hilton Sharm Waterfalls though I will see how things are. My flight home to UK has been cancelled so will rebook accordingly.

I don't get Sharm. Ruskieland when you can just go inland to Marsa and also get historical sights as well.

Most of the major hotel chains are running near this rate. I tried for the Sheraton.

Is it banned for good? Sharm airport still shows that there are flights scheduled from Brussels and Gatwick. $29 is unreal cheap, and I bet security is so tight there that you can even leave your iPhone on the beach and no one will steal it.

The airport still isn't secure. I thumb my nose at overhyped terrorism risks but playing the odds with an insecure airport is just dumb.

What airport is truly safe? US just had a guy go through security with a loaded hand gun.

Like CDG, the USA has some airports where there could be a real risk of airport workers being radicalized. Moreover, USA airport workers (including TSA employees) are not screened.
