I have had a ton of success with Choice BRG; I spend about 2-3 mins on kayak every day and book everything several months in advance. The only downside is the limit of 1 per 30 day period.
On the other hand, I have had almost no success with IHG. For IHG hotels within a 3 hour drive of my home in Oklahoma, there is virtually never any opportunity for a BRG. I had success 1 time with a Tulsa holiday inn, and ever since then, the OTA pricing has been air tight at that location as well. I don't even look for IHG BRG's on any regular basis anymore, as it seems to be a waste of time.
I have been looking at Orbitz/Travelocity/Expedia brg opportunities; although you have to wait 6-8 weeks for the voucher, it can still be a good deal. When booking economy hotels (~$50), one would end up with two rooms for about $25 each. Again, it takes planning well ahead and spending 2-3 minutes on kayak every day looking for rate variations. Eventually one of the OTA's will have a lower rate than everyone else.
