I plan not to accept either option (if I receive this email) and will insist on the reservation being honored as is.
I think it is a fair offer. They are honoring the rate, but want you to commit. Can't you give a little??
I tried to book the rate (I was too late), but I wanted to actually stay there. If I could get that rate with non-refundable terms, I would jump on it
Of course it is not fair. In fact it is outright wasteful. But why would anyone waste $14 by being a no-show just to penalize a hotel? That makes no sense.
I have a problem with accepting my rate as non-refundable when it was sold to me as a refundable rate. If I will not be needing it, then I will cancel it as soon as I know - just not by the September deadline provided.
I agree though that FTers should do the best that they can so the hotel does not suffer any unnecessary loss and one way to do this is to cancel as soon as one knows for certain that they are not going to use the room.
I also feel this is quite generous. They didn't have to honor the rate and the repercussions for one hotel would have been minimal.
I think what they are trying to prevent is a situation like someone I know where he makes many reservations next year since he works on a very fickle schedule. Usually he is able to determine if he can go as the date gets close and cancels if he can't. I don't think he is purposely being wasteful. However, this really screws the hotel since they may not even be able to sell the room with the tome after he cancels. Now that is salt in a wound.
A committment to get a 14 dollar room with breakfast is very fair

I got the offer once I arrived in the hotel.
They also charged my card on the spot at the hotel for the other stays (because I asked for it)
One of them I needed to cancel, though, and they were more than happy to do that.

so I accepted the pre-pay rate, by hitting 'reply' on the email they sent. Do we just sit and wait for their counter offer or was there something else i had to do by going into the booking?
I didn't see/receive their first EMail but I just received what they said was their second request.
I also accepted their non-refundable offer. I really am only using it is a day room during a 9-10 hour layover in NRT. So I booked two nights due to the check-in/check-out times. Still, $28 for breakfast and a day room is a great deal!

I had booked an entire week of one-night bookings starting April 1 when I arrive on 787 DEN-NRT inaugural. I emailed them back saying that it didn't work for me to confirm my plans right away, but that I would cancel no later than the end of Feb if I was deciding to not stay. They replied saying that my stay was going to stay as is: fully flex.
