I don't think it is pointless. He is sharing a deal he found to people that PM him, most likely done so the deal doesn't go Internet-wide and get killed.
I would much rather people share deals, if need be by PM, than not share at all.

This isn't really a deal for a 5* hotel in Taipei especially when it's after New Year's Eve.
