Four Points by Sheraton Phoenix North $44 plus Tax

I saw this posted for this weekend, haven't checked other dates.

Advance purchase 35% off, $44 plus tax. Works out to $50.39 I believe. One night and two night stays seem to work.

The rate is good through 12/1/2009. USD 44.85, + charges & taxes = USD 50.35. Fully Prepaid. Non-refundable. This is an excellent value and is elligible for the 1000 points per stay Get Closer to Paradise promo. I will be in PHX Dec 4, hopefully they will extend the date.

There are even suites available at this rate. https://www.starwoodhotels.com/prefe...e=&iATANumber=
1 King+1 Single Sofa Bed
Suite Non-smoking, Four Comfort Bed, Free Internet/bottled Water, Poolside Room, Patio Room
An excellent find CMK10

This is a great rate. The staff are very friendly, the rooms are dated and the housekeeping can be iffy.

With the two free drinks and free breakfast (Gold/Plat bennie), the effective rate drops to $30 all-in assuming you would pay for the drinks/breakfast anyway.

The next step is to arrange for telephone check-in...

After 12/1 the rate soars to USD 57.85 + charges & taxes = USD 64.95. Only once have I seen a better deal at this property -- $59+ with a $20 F&B credit plus the drinks and breakfast for elites mentioned above. Although I did know it at the the time that rate turned out to be a mistake and I had to pressure them via SPG to honor my 3 bookings.

Family and Friends rates do not qualify for stay credit, but do qualify for points. It is a special restricted rate. I found out the hard way at the Phoenician using a family and friends rate.

Thanks for the heads up but there is nothing in the T&C that says that. Any paid rate booked on spg.com should be a qualifying rate.

If I don't get stay credit SPG will have quite a fight on their hands. You should fight it also. (see postings below)

Response from Starwood Corp.

4B.4. An “Eligible Rate” is the rate you pay for your room, but excludes:

(a) for hotels located in Asia Pacific*, rooms where the booking is not made directly with Starwood or a Starwood branded web-site;

(b) for hotels located outside of Asia Pacific*, pre-paid rooms where the booking is made by an agent or third party and you pay for that booking directly to such third party, such as tour operators, and pre-paid channels, including, but not limited to priceline.com, expedia.com, hotels.com, hrn.com, hotwire.com, lastminute.com, site59.com, orbitz.com, travelocity.com, cheaptickets.com, quickbook.com, travelweb.com, lodging.com, yahootravel.com, and travel.msn.com;

(c) room rates for group commercial or group leisure bookings where rooms are booked as part of a conference or organized tour that is either master billed or paid at tour operator rates or where the bookings for six or more rooms are linked;

(d) room rates that are master billed or paid at tour operator rates, wholesaler rates, including STARnet, STARPRO rates, and crew room rates;

(e) employee rates;

The friends and family rate is an employee rate as you need to know an individual who works for starwood hotels and resorts worldwide.

(I know people that work there, but the rate was because i live in AZ)

The Friends and Family rate is listed on spg.com and makes no mention that it is just for friends and family of an employee. See the hotel's 'Special Offer" page at http://specialoffers.starwoodhotels....SOP_US_4P_1256. The rate may have been put on that page by mistake although I did not know it at the time. I made the booking in good faith and Starwood is an ethical company and I am sure they will credit the stay. I will report back on my experience.

The points only posted for incidentals, but not for the rate or stay credit. Time to do battle with SPG, and I will win.

Dearest all,

This is a Friends and Family rate particularly arranged for participating properties in Arizona only. It is eligible for Starpoints credit and is available to anyone.

Not to be confused with the StarFriend rate(which isn't eligible).

Thyetus, thanks for looking into this. It looks like your message needs to be spread around. Here is a portion the reply I received to a missing credit inquiry.
Dear Mr. gflowler-ord-1K [note that my name is spelled wrong]

Thank you for your recent email concerning your Starwood Preferred Guest account. I welcome this opportunity to assist you. Family and friends of Starwood Employees staying at a Starwood Friends rate who participate in Starwood Preferred Guest program may earn Starpoints on their eligible incidentals, but will not earn Starpoints for their stay. A family member or friend can earn Starpoints when paying a qualifying rate.

As your reservation was at a StarFriend rate, I cannot process your Missing Stay Claim.

The incidental Charges have been already posetd. [sic]

In closing, I was wondering if you'd mind answering a few quick questions about the service you've received today.
....
Best Regards,

I filled out the survey giving the person very low scores. This person needs to learn how to spell, especially the customer's name.

I answered with the following.
The Friends and Family rate is listed on spg.com and makes no mention that it is just for friends and family of an employee and that it is not eligible for stay credits.. See the hotel's 'Special Offer" page at http://specialoffers.starwoodhotels....SOP_US_4P_1256. I made the booking in good faith I demand that I get stay credits and points.
9 minutes after I posted the above I received the following reply from another SPG rep. I am suspicious that Thyetus had somthing to do with it ^^.
Dear Mr. gfowler-ord-1k, [name spelled correctly]

Thank you for your email reply. I welcome this opportunity to assist you further.

Your stay at the Four Points by Sheraton Phoenix North on December 04, 2009 has now been re-credited with the correct amount of Starpoints.

The Platinum Amenity Starpoints for this stay will be credited back to your account within the next seven to ten days.

The points and stay credit has now posted correctly. My concern is that there are probably others that booked the Arizona Friends and Family rate and did not get credit. Mine would not have if I were not so persistent.

The $59 F&F rate is still available at the Four Points (http://specialoffers.starwoodhotels....SOP_US_4P_1256)
or the nearby Sheraton Crescent for $69 (http://specialoffers.starwoodhotels...._SOP_US_SI_102). Both are good values.

Hi gfowler-ord-1k,

If there are Flyertalk readers who have been informed incorrectly previously that the Friends and Family promotional rate isn't eligible for Starpoints credit, they can send an email directly to [email protected]. If possible, a hotel folio or CC statement should be attached as well.

Updated: I have been reading what I wrote yesterday and I feel that I should remind everyone that this Friends and Family Promotional rate is different from the StarFriends rate and it is only eligible for participating properties in Arizona only.

In addition, it is eligible for Starpoints credit but the StarFriends rate isn't.
