Core issues at stake include whether Uber's car-and-taxi-hailing app should be considered an unlicensed public transport business and whether Uber drivers have the correct insurance for carrying paying passengers.

The majority of arguments for Uber in HK aren't really contending current taxis are overpriced (if cabbies don't try to hustle), but rather hustling during peak periods, bad service and an inability to choose a better ride than a run-down Toyota cab.

I rather take the SiuBa Green Bus than taking the taxi sometimes.
Bad service, mad if your route is short, giving faces, and as usual circling the area.
The Toyota cab needs an upgrade.

It isn't really about the price - more about the terrible service, as percysmith and TennisNoob mentions.
When not using Didi, my taxi experience is like 80% bad service. The driving is horrific as well. It gets better with Didi (largely because they don't complain about short routes or having to cross the harbour). The driving doesn't get much better though. :P I don't understand the HK taxi driver's love of "feathering" the brake and pulling the hand brake at every red light. Is there a myth that it saves them gas or something?
The few times I've taken Uber in HK, the price is slightly higher (like 20-30HKD) but the service quality is much better.

Even though they spend less on the gas and it hurts the car more.
However because the car is not theirs, they really don't care.
On top of that, if you goto Shenzhen it's even more obvious they do this.
The taxi driver would see an red light in front him, raise up to 70 than hard brake even though the timer shows 100+ Seconds left.
