BOS to HKG -- better on CX or AC?

CX is definitely superior than AC in every respect. It's a long flight and you may want to check the price difference for Premium Economy on CX.
If you fly AC, the transit at YYZ is quite painless and you are not required to go through Canadian immigration and custom excise formalities. On the return trip, you will pre-clear U.S. C.B.P. at YYZ. That's a plus as when you arrive in BOS, you just pick up your bag and go because you would have been pre-cleared at YYZ.
For AC, absolutely avoid the 3 cabin 77W. It has very tight seat pitch of 31" and 17" seat width.
A non-stop direct flight is always nice.
