Perhaps they do not do this....

In London or Paris, BA and AF Business and First customers have access to a special queue at immigration. I assumed this might be the case in HK as well.

HKID card holders and eChannel subscriber can use the automated gates.

APEC travel card holders and crew have special faster processing lines.

If we exit at Hong Kong then we have access to the arrivals lounge for a shower and a snack and we will have our baggage in hand. The downside is we will then have to make our way from the airport to the ferry terminal to catch the ferry.

If we transfer in Hong Kong then it sounds like we will be waiting for a long time for our bags when we get to Macau. We also run the risk of getting to Macau and not having a room ready to use for a shower.

Has anyone tried this one both ways and have a preference?

Ten days ago we arrived with CX in F in HKG did not do the immigration at HKG and did not collect the luggage - went direct to the counter of Cotai Water Jet and bought the ticket. Our luggage was relabeled and sent direct to the ferry. At the skypier we waited around 10 minutes and bought a bottle of water. The immigration took 30 seconds and the luggage was arriving at the same time. A shuttle bus brought us to the Macau Sheraton for free. Around 120 minutes after leaving the CX flight in HKG we were in our executive suite at the Sheraton Cotai. 15 minutes later we were at the casino.

You sir, are fortunate that your flight's arrival matched up reasonably with the ferry's departure.

Others are praying for an alignment of the planets.

Therefore, one should simply be flexible and decide upon arrival at HKG.

questions?

I land at HKG at 10:30am on 1 May, looks like there is a TurboJet ferry at noon, perfect, provided all goes well with my fight.

Then I depart HKG at noon on 4 May, looks like the first TurboJet ferry departs Macau at 9:30am for HKG, I am not comfortable with departing Macau at 9:30am for a noon HKG flight. Any thoughts?

What are my other options getting from Macau to HKG airport for my noon flight on the morning on 4 May?

Depends which airline you are flying, some have check-in arranged with TurboJet so that is like a plane connection and no problem with that schedule (CX for example does this).

Options: 1. charter a helicopter to HKG, that costs about HKD 20000.
2. take ferry to non-airport and then taxi or train to airport. Not sure that will get you to airport any sooner.
3. leave the day before and spend a night in Hong Kong. Much more interesting than Cotai

Note: the first ferry to HKG often sells out ahead of time so buy your tickets in advance (at least it did when I was last in Macau).

9:30a sailings arrive HKG at 10:20a. If your airline is one of these:

http://www.turbojet.com.hk/en/airpor...-services.aspx

then, you have enough time for a 12:00n flight, with or without checked luggage.

If your airline is not listed, then the minimum connection time is 110 or 120 minutes, depends on airline:

http://www.turbojet.com.hk/en/airpor...formation.aspx

Either 110 or 120, noon time flight is out of the question, and they won't let you board the ferry.

So, it's not a question of whether you're comfortable or not. It's whether it's allowed or not. If your airline participate for the Macau check-in service listed in the first link, you have plenty of time to do the transfer.

As for other means, for a noon time flight, technically, you can check-in at HK Airport Express station in Central as late as 10:30a. Check this page to see if your airline participate:

http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/se...ckin_info.html

It's an hour ferry from Macau to Hong Kong Island, then you have to go through immigration and then it's either a 12-minute walk or 2-minute by taxi ride to Hong Kong station. So, you can do the maths.

Realistically, 8:45a is probably the last ferry which I'd be comfortable with.

Thank you for all of the details, it is greatly appreciated.

I agree, I will catch the 8:00 or 8:45 for my noon flight on 4 May.

One last question. It looks like the ferry runs every 15 minutes for the most part, should I buy my ticket in advance on their website, or just wait until I arrive in HKG airport? The only reason I am hesitant to buy my ferry ticket early online is because what if my flight is delayed and I miss my ticketed ferry?

Every 15 minutes is between HK Island and Macau. Between HKG and Macau is much less frequent. Just buy when you arrive at HKG. For the ferry from Macau back to HKG or HK Island, you can buy it when you arrive in Macau.
