Any "nerdy" or "geeky" place to go?

Hello everyone,

I am totally a sci-fi (heck, even science itself), comic, video game, etc fan.
Everything that is considered "geeky"

Now, I will be visiting HK with the wife for 3 days, I think she wants to meet some of her college friends for lunch.
Since it will be a girl thing, I am thinking I can use this time to check out some cool techy/sci-fi type stuff.

So are there any:
Video arcades, or comic stores, or sci-fi type place I can go to and check out?

Of course, Tokyo would be the dream place, but hopefully HK will have something

Thanks!

Do you read / speak Chinese or are you looking for something in English?

You can always pop by the Tsim Sha Tsui East area where the Science Museum and Space Museum are at.

This is a good topic, and hopefully I can build on it.

Is there a section of Hong Kong like Akihabara in Tokyo? Kind of a place to check out the latest and possibly greatest in electronics?

Not exactly the same, but for computer and electronic components, you can go to the connected Golden Computer Shopping Center & Golden Computer Shopping Arcade in Sham Shui Po. Right off the MTR, exit D2.

Sham Shui Po is a good bet. If you get tired of that "mall", the streets around there become markets later in the day.

Yes, mostly on Ap Liu Street. Exit A2 or C2 from MTR station. From Golden, easiest is to go back through the MTR station to cross the busy Cheung Sha Wan Road.

Talking about Sham Shui Po, there's a street near that area that sells board games and stuff too. I forgot what those shops have, nor the exact street. Sorry

And yeah, TST East is where the avenue of stars is at. It's actually right outside of the space musuem.

Anime and other action figures : CTMA Centre (a multi-storey mall) , Mongkok MTR , Sai Yeung Choi St + Dundas St

Golden Computer Mall in Shamshuipo is a very local place, extremely crowded and generally cheapest among the computer malls. A more relaxing alternative is Wanchai Computer Centre (Wanchai MTR).

>> Kind of a place to check out the latest and possibly greatest in electronics?

These are found in full scale electronics stores in major shopping malls, not Shamshuipo or Golden.

I would recommend going to one of the "computer malls" to satisfy your geek side. Make sure you leave your wife with her girlfriends as everyone in these malls seem to be male

Thanks for the info.
I looked up CTMA Centre and found a whole bunch of other places.
So Im thinking of going to these places:

CTMA Centre
Animate
Richmond Shopping Centre
Toyzone at Causeway Bay
Oriental 188
Clark's Comics
Sino Centre
In's Point

When abouts are you going? I guess this is either too late for 2011 or too early for 2012, but every year HK hosts an awesome Anime-comic game fair in July at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai:

Or, there's a huge Spring Electronics exhibition in April (the one for the fall just past )

sard: there are also plenty of video arcades if you're into that sort of thing. They have every sort of game - what was interesting a few years ago when I was there is an online video game using cards that get automagically recognised it seemed like Magic: the gathering crossed with tabletop wargaming.

I'm there the week before you - leave on 11/28 - so if I see any I'll post the whereabouts on here.
