Earning Points at the Resort - What Doesn't Qualify
Please note that any charges on third party services will be ineligible for points, e.g:
• Seaplane Transfer*
• Water Sports
• Dive Centre
• Spherique Boutique, Island Breeze or any other shops*
• Service Charge
• T-GST (Tourism Goods & Service Tax) and Green Tax (both government levied)
* The above mentioned outlets/services are third party and are not run by Conrad Maldives, therefore any purchases or expenses for items or services rendered will not be eligible for HHonors points
Deposit on Award Bookings
• If you get an email telling you there will be a large deposit required for your award stay, do not worry. It is not charged, most likely a IT glitch

Tax Information
• 10% Service Charge (levied by resort)
• 12% T-GST (Tourist Goods & Services Tax, levied by the Maldivian government, current as of Oct 1, 2014)
• Total tax is 23.2%, not 22% as one would think. Example; $100 + 10% = $110, then add 12% on to $110 for a total of $123.20
• • Tip: To work out prices before the 23.2% taxes, multiply by 0.81169, i.e; 123.2 * 0.81169 = 100
• A new Green Tax of $6pp/pn (levied by the Maldivian government) has been introduced starting from 1 November 2015. Points/Redemption bookings are exempt from the tax for up to two guests per room
Note: The $8pp/pn Bed Tax (previously levied by the Maldivian government) was abolished on Dec 1, 2014

Resort Information / F&B / Spa / Activities
• Three islands make up Conrad Rangali with two being available for guests; Rangalifinolhu (main island) and Rangali Island (smaller island), while the third island houses staff quarters, power generators, etc. This third island, AKA 'the staff island', is off-limits to guests

* As of the beginning of 2018, both Atoll Market and Vilu now close half an hour earlier than before (previous closing time was 11AM)
• See this post for policy on kids eating for free at the resort
• The resort has two pools. Hours for both the Main Pool (located on Rangalifinolhu) and the Quiet Zone Pool (adults only and located on Rangali Island) are 9AM until 6PM daily
The resort has two spas:
• A large spa positioned over the water at the northern tip of the main island (opposite Mandhoo spa restaurant) called the Spa Retreat. Click here for the Spa Retreat Pricelist

Current / Future Maintenance / Property Issues
RANGALI ISLAND CLOSURE, WATER VILLA RENOVATIONS & REFURBISHMENT (Updated 30 August, 2021):
Rangali Island (small, Water Villa-only island) closed April 15, 2021 and expected completion date for renovations was October 31, 2021. This has now been pushed back to December 2021. Detailed information is as follows;
- All villas are to be fully renovated (except for Premier Water Villas and the Sunset Water Villas (now known as Sunset Ocean Pavillions(SunOPs) which are to have touchups and new furniture only). Water Villas (WVs) lagoon side are to have jacuzzis and the ocean side villas in this category are to have full-width pools. New category names are Sunrise Water Villa (now abbreviated in this wiki and thread as SunriseWV) and Sunset Water Villa w/Pool (now abbreviated in this wiki and thread as SunsetWV)
- Atoll Market buffet restaurant was to re-open around May with a new concept with two cooking stations. Opening has been delayed with re-opening date uncertain. Breakfast buffet is at Ufaa
- New gym to be built on Rangali island at Ari Lounge (both islands will have a gym each)
Closure of Rangali Island:
- Bar & restaurants on Rangali Island will be closed with the temporary exception of Vilu Restaurant which will remain open for breakfast (when Atoll Market re-opens, projected for 15th May). See above for changes to this schedule
- Vilu will be refurbished during the closure. As of August, Vilu and The Wine Cellar are back in business, open one or two nights with a fixed menu and The Quiet Zone is open daily. Koko Grill is open one night a week
- Diamond Happy Hour, weekly Champagne & Lobster and Fisherman's BBQ dinners will be held on the main island. Location for Diamond Happy Hour was Mandhoo but in May it moved to Ufaa Beach. The Champagne & Lobster dinner is also now held at Ufaa Beach

Any further dates and info will be posted in this section however you may email the resort if you would like to know of the latest information.

Old Maintenance / Property News
• Property was closed from May 15, 2014 - July 14, 2014 for completion of 3rd island which now houses staff and infrastructure
Note: During this time some, but not all Beach Villas, were refurbished
• Cantonese restaurant named Ufaa opened September 2014. It is situated where the old gym used to be (next to Atoll Market buffet restaurant) and is both on the ground and first floors
• New gym is now located above the shops on the main island, next to the library. See this conversation for info on facilities and exercise equipment
• From 20 April - November 2016 the resort refurbished all standard Beach Villas. See this post for details on changes to Beach Villa design
• In January 2017 the resort did minor work on the Superior Water Villas. See this post for details
• The resort closed The Quiet Zone Pool from 17 July 2017 to 1 October 2017 to carry out maintenance and upgrade works. The entire pool was re-tiled and re-decked
• The resort closed Vilu for two weeks early November 2017 (re-opened on 24th) to carry out refurbishment which included replacement of flooring. Breakfast was moved to Mandhoo and Happy Hour for Golds and Diamonds moved to The Quiet Zone
• Vilu and The Wine Cellar were closed for maintenance for one month from the end of August 2018
• Koko Grill was closed for a short time in September 2018 to install a transparent tarpaulin (to avoid cancellation due to rain) and re-opened October 1st, 2018
• In late 2018 the resort started on a project to refurbish all the Deluxe Beach Villas. See this post for pictures and this post for a video of the old style / pre-renovation Deluxe Beach Villas
• All Deluxe Beach Villas were renovated during the period May 15 - October 15 2018. In December 2017 the first one was completed. Villa no.140
Note: This timeframe was been revised and completion was due 10 December, 2018. Update: Timeframe was further revised to 15 May - mid-October 2019
• Changes to restaurant hours from 7th June - end of August 2019:
  • Vilu was closed due to “unforeseen circumstances” until approx August 26 (actual reason was rot found in the floorboards) and Mandhoo was open for breakfast daily from 7:00-10:30 during this period
  • The Wine Cellar was closed and re-opened on July 20. Alternatively, a three course Degustation Dinner was available at The Cheese and Wine Bar on Tuesdays and Fridays
  • Mandhoo was closed for dinner on Mondays and Thursdays (instead of only Mondays)
  • Sunset Grill and Ithaa were closed on Tuesdays and Fridays
  • Ufaa by Jereme Leung was closed on Saturdays and Wednesday (instead of only Wednesdays)
  • Maldivian Night did not take place during this period

• Retreat and Family Water Villas had minor touchups and decorations from 15 October - 22 December 2019. All sunset-facing villas had new pools installed. See this post for details. Category was renamed to Grand Water Villa (sunrise-facing) and Grand Water Villa with Pool (sunset-facing). The villas now offered as 2-bdrm units have had the spa room made into a second bedroom. The majority of construction for the pools was conducted off site, minimizing noise as much as possible. New furniture was installed in February 2020 and floors were to be repolished around that time. Additional decorations were to be added after the floors were polished.

Recommended hotels for overnight stay in Malé
Hotel Jen Malé (previously Traders Hotel) (4 Star, $300-$450/night)
Hotel Octave (Hotel Website). Hotel Octave (TripAdvisor) (3 Star, $100-$150/night, Excellent reviews and value for money)
Hotel 78 (Hotel Website). Hotel 78 (TripAdvisor) (3.5 Star, $78-$140/night)
Extensive list of hotels on Hulhumale (airport) Island
>> Overnight stay in Malé - Resort Booking Service
• The resort used to be able to book other hotels like Jen Hotel (above), Airport Hotel (presumably the Hulhule Island Hotel) and Hotel Octave (also listed above) but now it seems they are not in partnership with any hotels. Note: The bill for the hotel in Malé was added to your bill at Rangali and paid for at checkout

Tours of Malé
• The resort offers a free tour of Malé (for guests returning to the capital after their stay). You only need to pay $1 pp for the ferry. Luggage can be stored at the airport for a minimal fee while you are on the tour

Miscellaneous
• If you are thinking of taking a drone, please see this post regarding the resort's drone policy
• The property does not share a timezone with Malé - it's one hour ahead, which makes transfers back to the airport less rushed, i.e; you have an extra hour to spare. When setting your devices to Rangali time, use an equivalent timezone (like Dhaka) rather than manually setting the time, or you'll stop any 2FA(2 Factor Authentication) working

I’ve never been anywhere that doesn’t see a basic SDI the same as PADI. That said, PADI is the most common around the world so if you want no hassles, see if you can find someone to convert it for minimal cost/dives.

Oh my God... I’m currently in a life or death battle with a giant bee for ownership of my own villa... yesterday we agreed he could have the jacuzzi area and one of the sun loungers but it appears he’s back this morning to renegotiate on an all or nothing basis

Even though life is tough in paradise you have to remember that you're the invader. Not quite a member of the Valentine's Day Horde but an invader nonetheless.

We had the exact same issue 2 weeks ago - at one point there were 3 carpenter bees fighting each other for the territory of our villa. They disappear around the time you want to sit in the jacuzzi for sunset, so that was the only time we managed to get outside and use it... was quite frustrating, but Quiet Zone became our oasis as a result.

We called it in, and they sent some exterminators which sprayed all sorts of stuff whilst we left the room for 2 hours. But it made no different, they were back with vengeance the very next day...

The bees like the wood - they try to find holes to lay eggs in - and then want to protect the space after and fight away other bees. Might be seasonal? We resigned to the fact that we were the intruders. Good luck!

Our Christmas present to each other was scuba lessons. We went with SDI cert instead of PADI just based on cost. Will that make any difference at the resort, or are both recognized?
I am looking to book the standard room and then upgrade. How did the process work for a paid upgrade? Did you know it was available when you booked your stay?

Thanks

Hi @Churnitupsome

See my post here: Guidelines For Paid Upgrades

If you want to check whether any room type is available when you book your stay all you have to do is go onto on the resort's or Hilton's website and if the room has a cash rate then it's available.

what dates are you looking for - loads this month as an example.... personally i would take what ever they have (beach villa) and then if a water villa comes up you can talk with them and they will move you to the beach villa (booking wise)

Like what Cynicor said, for either points or cash:
  • WV seem to be unavailable from early April (last night April 1) to the end of October (first night November 1)
  • SWV seem to be unavailable from early April (last night April 10) to the end of October (first night November 1)
All of this was tested with single-night stays (of course nobody is staying at the CMRI for one night, but that's the easiest way to plug in the searches). The change in availability was noticed in early December 2020:

Perhaps this can reasonably be tied back to the CMRI General Manager's response to this December 2020 TripAdvisor review, where she said:
...I have noted your comments regarding our water villas, thank you. We will be refurbishing them next May...
