[ARCHIVE to 2018] Hilton Best Rate Guarantee or BRG

I am trying to book a hotel in the Seattle area. The doubletree can be had on the hilton website for $111/night. The same hotel can be had on expedia for $72/night. I understand that if I book via expedia, my HHonors gold will not be honored. Does hilton have a program, like starwood, that will match rates found on 3rd party sites?

I don't believe there is a guarantee.

Preliminary hubub about the new policy hinted they would be offering such a guarantee (or, at least, making the claim that the website had the lowest price), but they backed away with that in the official "launch". It seems they realized they couldn't stop property owners/managers from making special deals, such as this one seem to have done.

But is it an "Expedia Best Deal" or whatever they call their Priceline/Hotwire-esque PRE-PAY type of rate? If so, as I think you know, that rate is ineligible even under the old policy.

If not, why not try calling the hotel directly? They might offer the rate out of hand, or with a little negotiating/arm-twisting and perhaps some superviory/management intervention.

Even without such a guarantee, it's still the right thing to do (except for pre-paid non-refundable rates a la Priceline, Hotwire, etc.).

Lowest Rate Guaranteed?

Does Hilton offer a "Lowest Rate Guaranteed" facility similar to Intercontinental (find lower rate on another website, we'll match it) ?

No.

$50 for 15 minutes "Best Rates Guarantee"

I love it!!

Just spent a few minutes on the phone with an agent who matched the expedia rate (well, almost - I wasn't going to argue over $5) and I will get a $50 US Amex gift cheque for my trouble after my one night stay at the Hampton Tropicana Las Vegas (2nd call on this property today for this agent!). This will also be my 4th stay on the 50,000 pt promo so "taking them to the cleaners" is pretty much the case here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Policy is below:

So does this mean that if the AAA or AARP rate on the Hilton website is the best rate on that website, I don't get any guarantee if I book it (as I often have in the past)? Or are they saying that if you book on the Hilton website, you aren't guaranteed that against a lower AAA or AARP rate if you find it elsewhere?

Good question and Hilton is confused about this as I had booked a AAA rate on hilton.com and they would not adjust this rate to a lower expedia rate. I booked the higher non-AAA rate and they gladly adjusted it - bizarre. I think they really mean that you can't use a lower AAA etc... rate from elsewhere as your "beat this rate quote", although then of course Hilton can't use the AAA or similar rates on their website to claim we have a lower rate either.

The icing on the cake would be to have the CSR change the res from AAA to non-AAA over the phone - and then invoke the guarantee during the same phone call. (Not that that would effectively point out the absudity...)

Wow I wish i had known about this. I booked an Expedia rate about 5 days ago because I could get an average of 84 dollars a night as opposed to 129 at hilton.com. I even spoke with in house reservations at the hotel to try to get them to match it and they just suggested I go ahead and book with Expedia. The rate on Expedia has since gone up so it is too much trouble to fool with trying to cancel (25 dollar fee) and rebook.

kawoh Dec 3, 2003 7:01 pm

just submitted mine.

Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC, expedia shows as US$69, paid on Hilton.com US$71 for 1 jan, checkout 2 jan...

let's see if they honour it! how do you get the cheque if you aren't in the US?

Altaflyer Dec 3, 2003 8:00 pm

Agent said it would be mailed....so that should work, in theory anyways. If it is actually a cheque I know that my bank will cash it, if it is a plastic card then you can use it where they take Amex. I just called them and dealt with the issue right away since its a free call from here.

Great catch! I'm going to be in Vegas next week, so I decided to book a couple of (non-consecutive) nights at the Hampton. One night was $75, while the other was $49 on Expedia. (both a little higher on hilton.com). I filled out the online guarantee form, and got responses back that the price was matched and that I would be receiving the Amex certificates. Adding tax and subtracting the $100 in Amex certificates, the two nights will cost me $35.16.

As these will count as my 3rd and 4th stays towards the ACAQ promo, I'll get 35,000 HHonors points. Not a bad deal!

Now I know I'll have to go to the hotel and actually check in. But do I have to wait until the next day to check out, or can I check out on the spot? Can I tell them that I don't even need to bother with keys, etc?

You have of course called to get an adjustment of your bookings to use the rate guarantee - yes? I am assuming yes but...

Not sure re: having to stay but why not just stay there and cancel the other hotel (unless its non-ref). At least collect your "Hampton touch" Gold ammenity http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes, I made the adjustment through the online form, and got back confirmation that it was accepted. (In your defence, that point wasn't clear in my original posting. I think I was in the middle of editing it when you posted your reply!)

I'm staying at Ballys as part of a conference. My hotel there is being paid for by the organization I'm with. In any case, if I'm going to Vega$, I want to be ON THE STRIP, BABY!

btw, what exactly IS the "Hampton touch" Gold ammenity???
