Don't be rest-assured and double check everything especially since hilton conveniently eliminated redemption lines from activity summaries.
Last month in predevaluation hurry i noticed that they charged $110 after my last redemption. Upon further investigation it turned out that the agent took out 170K instead of 145 and since i had 159K he simply charged me $110 for the remaining 11K. Without mentioning anything to me.
Eventually the charge was reversed and the proper amount taken out.

Well, double-checking everything is an obvious must. But your case is more of an exception than the rule, isn't it?
Countless members have made Axon reservations and have seen it state 170k and have had only 145k deducted. That's what I was getting at. That that is just the way it works.
Though your point is well taken. Thank you. ^

Does it really work that way? Perhaps I missed a discussion on that but I read 6x through the end of April as 6x through the end of April...

Just booked an AXON7N for 145k at the HHV in HNL. I've done AXONs a few times before but again its pretty straight forward
Call Diamond Desk. Tell them you are booking AXON and they'll ask for your Hilton #.
If you see standard room availability and your hotel is CAT 5, 6, or 7 still they can still book it. Cat 8, 9, 10 or premium room availability means AXON is not available.
If its available they'll require a CC and issue the award. Again, the award will say the full value of the points (in cat 7, 4 x 50 = 200k) but you'll see the deduction in your account of only 145k (or less for Cat 6)
Done and done.

I'm a little confused on how AXONs are working now. I'm looking to book an AXON for September in NYC at either Doubletree or Hilton Times Square. I see both have standard awards available online. If I go to book just straight off website, DT says 95,000 per night and Hilton says 70,000 per night!
DT is cat. 10 and Hilton is a 9. So, does this mean AXON's are or are not available at these properties now? Standard award is available online but their cat. has changed. Anyone have any advice?

The only AXON bookable hotel in NYC is the Cat 7 near LGA. CAT 8+ can not book AXON until new price is released in the summer.
Why its NY hotels rated so high!!! Nicer ones on the west coast at low categories but ticket prices are 2x blahhhh

So if your first statement after May 1 is on May 28, you would still earn the bonus till May 28.

They can not get this new AXON pricing structure done fast enough! I've called diamond desk a couple times, and each CSR I talk to says they are pretty sure AXON's will still be available for cat 8,9,10, but what amount....don't know yet. I so need to book an AXON for September in NYC, but there isn't a single NYC downtown property currently available for AXON booking. ugh!

Expect a letter from AMEX today with the new point levels for 4 night reward stays.
8 - 220,000
9 - 260,000
10 - 300,000
From the letter:
Discounted point amount needed for a four night reward stay book on or after June 15, 2013.
For hotels that moved from Category 5, 6 or 7 to Category 8, 9 or 10 as part of the recent modifications, you will not receive a discounted redemption benefit at those hotels for bookings made prior to June 15, 2013.
--
There's more info but everyone should be getting their letter soon.

So it pretty much comes to the same rate as stay 4, get 5th night free for high season rates. For low season rates AXON may actually be more than the actual point rate and not have any value.
Cat 8:
70K regular high season
4 nts at 55K AXON
5 nts at 56K VIP
Cat 9:
80K regular high season
4 nts at 65K AXON
5 nts at 64K VIP
Cat 10:
95K regular high season
4 nts at 75K AXON
5 nts at 76K VIP
Cat 8:
70K regular high season
4 nts at 55K AXON
5 nts at 56K VIP
Cat 9:
80K regular high season
4 nts at 65K AXON
5 nts at 64K VIP
Cat 10:
95K regular high season
4 nts at 75K AXON
5 nts at 76K VIP

WHEW! Big jump. I guess I'll wait for the letter. As of today, they still won't book an AXON at cat 8,9,10. So, guess you will have to wait till June?
