Bal'i has always been terribly over priced .

.Uber is easy. I used them three weeks ago when I came here and two days ago as I am back. There is a specific pick-up area and for Waikiki, it's between $22 and $27 one way.

Renting a car is the issue where to park as the hotels are expensive and street parking is tough. I rented AVIS from the Sheraton, pick up at 8 and dump before they close and save on parking/Valet

Stayed one night last week on points as a diamond. Booked a standard award room and was upgraded to a Rainbow Tower corner oceanfront diamond head room 4 days before arrival. Did OLCI the night before to reserve a room on the 29th floor. Used the $36 credit on a Starbucks Hawaii mug and reusable bag.

If you rent from the Hertz at the Hyatt Regency, they allow for after hours drop-off.

Thanks for sharing.
Is the $36 diamond credit for breakfast only or any dining?
I thought diamond should receive two credits, one for breakfast, the other for the executive lounge access, which the property is missing. Maybe you are traveling solo?

The credit is for any food or beverage, not just breakfast. The credit is $18 per day for the Diamond and up to 2 credits a day ($36 total) if more than one person in the room. A lone Diamond will only get 1 credit of $18 per day if no one else in the room.

Hertz told me on the phone they didn't allow after hours drop off there. I just finished a stay there and wanted a rental car for Monday only to return the night and called Hertz and they said they didn't allow for afterhours returns (I had something booked for Tuesday so I didn't bother going ahead with the reservation). I called the 800 number though and when I tried to call the location direct it went to the 800 number I had called earlier. Wish I would have known that I could have returned the car after hours.

There is also an enterprise and I went there and they did have cars available but didn't allow after hours drop offs Their site was showing no cars but when I walked in to ask they had a couple SUVs

Just finished a five-night stay there. Was pretty impressed.

Got a 5 night stay for 240K points and no issues getting the fifth night free. I thought it was a good redemption.

Was upgraded to the 35th (top floor) floor of the Tapa Tower. Wasn't a suite but very nice upgrade and huge room that had a sofa in it. The latest check out they would give me was 1 p.m. and my flight was at 4 so I just went to a couple of the stores 9in the complex with my luggage to buy some souveniers for people. Somaneone riding down in the elevator leaving the same day said they were given a 6 p.m. checkout for $100 but had to switch rooms but they had kids and a late flight and wanted to use the pool and shower and have a place for the youngest kid to nap so that was worth paying.

No issues at all getting either an Uber or Lyft right away.

F&B credit was good and no issues with them applying it. I was told I could use the first day credit either at day of check in or day of check out. Credit is good the entire day until the venue closes and no problems combining it each day on a couple venues. You can also have food delivered from the Market until 8. Unlike most Hiltons the credit got applied correctly. $36 worked fine for me. One of the days I used it at the Tapa bar and got a really good burger, fries and frozen drink and it covered almost all of it but the tip. Used it a couple times at the market, you can get a sandwich, chips and can of soda for around $14 and they have ice cream. They have amazing pastries in the morning. I used $16 of it a couple times at Starbucks to buy Hawaii coffee cups to take home since I had money left over from the credit the times I used it at the market.

Only complaint with the credit is one night I wanted to use it at the Tapa bar and they were full and no seats and asked to do take out and if a venue is too busy they won't allow take out and require you to eat it there, so plan accordingly before the market closes at 8 (I just ended up buying the sandwich combo and Ice cream and a few cookies and bottles of water for later to use up the $36) and on my last day I wanted to eat at the Tropics bar for breakfast and they serve breakfast until 10:30 and when I went in at 9:45 was told they were done accomodating breakfast guests for the morning and had a long line (used the credit at Wiki market again and got a bunch of cookies to take home and went to starbucks and bought another mug).

They give you a few cards and you have to take them to the pool for a beach towel and then they give the card back when you return the card. Pools fill up fast and they don't start giving out towels until 9 a.m. when the pools open so ask for extra room towels if you want to go to the beach early. The pools are open late but the towel service closes well before the pools do.

With the pool you have to get a wrist band that is cheap paper and doesn't hold out more than a day to use the paradise pool fom the front desk and there is usually a long line at the front desk. I didn't have issues not having the band one day but one day they wouldn't let me use it despite having a beach towel card and being able to show the room key on my app. That was kind of a pain but fortunately the beach was there and they gave me some towels for there.

Recognizing Diamond Status

I booked a Delta air and hotel vacation package to the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Will they recognize my diamond status? I guess I only care to get that food credit.

Technically no recognition. But you could always show your card when you check in. Maybe they will do something for you. But don't expect it.

I figured I wouldn’t but if they do then that’s cool too. I almost used my points and booked air separate but I had a old vacation voucher I needed to exhaust. Oh well looks like the kids will eat McDonald’s in the morning across the street. Lol

I just read through the current (as of 4/4/22) directory to prepare for my Wednesday arrival. https://d1bqobzsowu5wu.cloudfront.ne...c14f58c2d6068e

Are there pool noodles available for guest use or available for rent / purchase on the property?

The website says they are but it could be out of date. Other taxi companies might have similar rates -- I don't know.
I accidentally made a HNL- HHV booking for the coming week while looking for an estimate. The flat rate is still $29, not including tax and tip. https://charleystaxi.com/

To future website users, once you tick the 'agree to ToS' box and go forward, you're booked. They don't ask for payment details and there is no 'review page' before the booking completes. Penalty-free cancellation is possible 8+ hours before arrival, though not sure how they'd reliably collect since all they have is name, phone number, and email address.

From Charley's website:
We’ve added Flat Rate zones between Oahu’s residential areas and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

Charley’s Taxi Flat Rates are discounted from the regular meter rate and are a great way to go to and from the Airport. You’ll save money and enjoy peace of mind because these discounted, fixed rates don’t change if there’s bad traffic. Flat Rates are one-way, per car, and do not include G.E. Tax, Airport Pick-up fee, or gratuity.

Waikiki: $29 – Typical meter rate is $35-45 (check map)

Aulani/ Ko Olina: $60 – Typical meter rate is $75-90

Turtle Bay: $120 – Typical meter rate is $145

Kalihi Kai: $17 (check map)

Likelike/School St: $20 (check map)

Downtown: $20 (check map)

Kakaako: $25 (check map)

UH Manoa Campus: $29 (check map)

Makiki/McCully: $29 (check map)

Manoa: $35 (check map)

FLAT RATE AND GENERAL DISCLAIMER

Discounted Flat Rates are one way, per car, and do not include extra stops or route deviations. Valid for up to 4 passengers with bags (1 suitcase & 1 carry-on per person) or up to 6 passengers with no bags. Drivers are required by law to run the meter on Flat Rate trips and will adjust the final meter rate down to the appropriate Flat Rate at the end of the trip. Driver will charge regular meter rate for the trip if any extra stops or route deviations are requested. No other discounts apply. Gratuities and 4.712% G.E. Tax not included.

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure any belongings in the main seating compartment of the vehicle are securely packed and fastened, and that any breakable items are protected while in our vehicles. Your driver, who is an independent contractor, and Charley’s Taxi assume no liability in the event of damage, loss or theft of any such property (including but not limited to luggage and golf bag wheels and handles) and will not be responsible for losses incurred, including but not limited to, loss of future profit, potential income, and additional expenses or losses incurred as a result of lost or stolen baggage or personal property.

$5.00 extra charge for each bicycle, golf bag, surfboard or items over 80 pounds, more than 4ft in length, or over 10 cubic feet in size. Driver will charge $5.00 each for additional terminal drop-offs. A fuel surcharge of $0.30 per trip will be added to your fare. Passengers who damage or soil the taxi will be responsible for a $250-350 cleaning fee.

Due to traffic congestion and delays, Charley’s Taxi may suspend Flat Rates and revert to taxi meter rates on Halloween, Black Friday, and New Year’s Eve (from 4pm on 12/31 to 6am on 1/1). We may also suspend Flat Rates 2 hours before, during, and 2 hours following major Holidays, Sporting Events, Concerts, and major road closures.

I can answer my own question today after reading the pool descriptions on the resort's website - they specifically say no floats or toys allowed under each description.

Does anyone have any experience as to what is open for Christmas Eve dinner/Christmas Day lunch/dinner? Or if there are any nearby restaurants that are recommended for December 24/25?

Being a hotel probably most of the on site hotel restaurants will be open at least for lunch and dinner.

My favorite place I ate at was Ginza Bairin, about a ten minute walk. GREAT food but very small, I'm sure they are open for at least lunch on Christmas Eve.
