Since the Hilton HHonors™ program began more than 25 years ago, there are more opportunities for members to earn and redeem points than ever before. Now members can redeem points for any room, any time, anywhere at more than 3,900 hotels and resorts worldwide. Plus, members can get to reward stays faster with Points & Money Rewards™. To ensure that we continue to be a world-class guest loyalty program, changes to our program need to be made from time to time. As of March 28, 2013 the following changes will go into effect.

Reward Categories – We will be expanding to ten hotel reward categories to account for all of the new hotels and resorts that have opened in the past few years. With 3,900 hotels and resorts in 90 countries you are sure to find the perfect place for your next reward stay.
Seasonal Hotel Reward Pricing – For most of our hotels and resorts, we will introduce seasonal pricing for reward stays. The amount of points needed for a Standard Room Reward and a Points & Money Reward will vary during certain times of the year.
5th Night Free – Now members with Silver, Gold or Diamond elite status will get a free night* when they book a Standard Room Reward stay of five or more consecutive nights.

According to the FAQ,

When do the new changes become effective? What happens if I want to book a reward stay before they are effective? Can I make modifications to existing reservations after they become effective?

The new changes will become effective as of 12:01AM CST on Mar 28, 2013. Until this time, you can redeem Points for rewards stays at the current prices. You can book online, call +1-800-HHONORS (+1-800-446-6677, toll-free in the United States) or contact your local Hilton Reservations and Customer Care center. After this date, you can continue to make modifications; however, all standard room redemptions will follow the new standard room chart. Therefore, if the number of points changes from what was originally booked, up or down, the new point values will apply.

Just saw this as well. Ouch. Was looking at a Seychelles redemption that was 50k / night, now 95k.

Forget Skypesos, HHonors Points are more akin to Zimbabwean Dollars!

Ouch..... Devaluation at its finest. Clearly determined to reduce the 35 million members......
I wish I hadn't seen this post. I'm getting sick.
I guess we'll have our summer vacation in March this year.
I wonder how many/which hotels will cost 5K and 10K points per night?
How will this affect VIP awards ??

Or the Amex AXON award??

I could not find anything about either at first glance...

Overall, a sad day...

Two: The newest Hampton Inn (formerly the Bates Motel) and the Hanoi Hilton (the original one -- not the Hilton Hanoi Opera).
ridiculous

goodbye HILTON !!!!!
It still amazes me how much the HHonors reward program has changed (for the worse) since I first became a Diamond member in 2005. Back then the maximum reward stay was 40k points and it was easy to find a hotel that was 15-25k per night. It seems like every year it takes more and more points to book the same reward stay as last year.

A couple of months ago I had 240k reward points and I used them to book two rooms for three nights in June at the Hampton Inn in Jackson, WY (40k points x 6 nights = 240k points). I checked the seasonal points pricing for this hotel based on the change announced today and if I were to book those two rooms today it would've required 360k points... unbelivable!

Where did you get these numbers? Those increases would be the worst of the bunch so far....and I thought MR and PC were bad.

I think the tacos I had for lunch are going to show themselves again! I guess they all think that now is the time to do it since the others have already released bad news. Hopefully SPG won't be next with changes like this.
Actually I don't think it's that much of a dramatic change from the current levels:

CAT. HH Points
1 7,500
2 12,500
3 25,000
4 30,000
5 35,000
6 40,000
7 50,000
Waldorf Astoria™ Hotels & Resorts 50,000–80,000

It's just giving a range in each category, probably based on availability. What remains to be seen is how many hotels will jump to the 2 highest levels; and are these levels all for 'standard' rooms, or does the spread take into account upgraded rooms. Until we get more details I'm not running out to proclaim Woe Are Us quite yet, but I might later on.
I left Hilton years ago, so happy I did.
One more reason I am glad that I gave the final wave to HHonors as my primary prorgam. The reality is, this devaluation is something to think about, but also given the introduction of the "premium" awards, it has been very difficult to find nice redemptions in many places anyways.

goodbye HILTON !!!!!

Also for me, goodbye Hilton. I reduced my stays with Hilton already dramatically because of many things which are no longer good for me. But this gives me the final upchuck!
Wow...this makes the 2009 devaluation, as well as pretty much all other hotel program devaluations over the years, look mild by comparison.
