2012 Diamond suite upgrade failure thread

Since diamond benefits now include upgrades to suites it's probably beneficial to identify the properties that refuse to do so and their reasons.
Please refrain from discussion and upgrade success reports (there are other threads for that) and only report your failures.
Thanks!

Hilton Dartford Bridge last night upgraded only from standard room to deluxe room. Suite upgrade was offered as NOR1 in the online system for Ł40 and later Ł30.

Remember when posting some hotels do not have suites, and some only have a few suites which they might sell, so realistic expectations.

I like this thread, balance the Suite UG thread. Also, balance what your faux UG was and what the FD told you.

Maybe OP can summarize in post 1.

Doubletree Novi.

The Gold member checking in before me was told "thank you for being a valued gold member, we have upgraded you to a junior suite".

This diamond member was given the standard king room he booked.

HGV Orlando

Upgraded from studio to a 1 bedroom suite, but only after I asked if a better room was available as the studio they had pre-allocated was totally against my stated preferences (high floor, away from elevator).

Conrad Singapore - upgraded us to a Centennial suite.

At check in they told us that they upgraded us because it was our 1st stay in the property, but probably it is the new policy. In any case ^

I'm not sure I understand how this is a failure?

Sorry, I misread the thread title. I understood we had to post successes and failures.

Hampton Inn & Suites St. Petersburg/Downtown
Received a yawn and "we couldn't upgrade you" at check-in (01/27/12). Very disappointed.

Not only was there no upgrade....Hubby & I were stuck in a handicapped room overlooking the parking lot.

What's REALLY disappointing.....made my reservations 30 days in advance.

I don't think it matters if they have a reason for not upgrading a Diamond to a suite as long as they've given some type of upgrade that's available. So, adding the 'or suites' words to the upgrade benefits doesn't really matter because hotels used to upgrade members to suites when they wanted to. This policy doesn't force them to do it any more than the old one did.

The new Diamond benefits don't guarantee a suite upgrade, even if there are some available. The benefit still provides for a litany of upgrade options that the hotel has ultimate discretion. If you get upgraded from a deluxe standard room to a corner king that's classified as superior, then the hotel has met its HHonors obligation - even if there is an unoccupied basic suite.

For Conrads, Hiltons and Doubletrees
All Hilton HHonors Diamond guests will receive each of the following:
Upgrades to Preferred Rooms.
Diamond HHonors guests will receive upgrades to preferred rooms, based on availability for the entire stay at the time of check-in. Upgrades for Diamond HHonors guests may include the next-best available room from the room type booked. Upgrades may also be rooms with desirable views, corner rooms, rooms on high floors, rooms with special amenities, rooms on Executive Floors**, or suites, as identified by each property. Some exclusions based on rate and room type may apply. See Terms & Conditions for details.

Upgrades were not at a benefit at the Hampton Inn brand before, and that has not changed with Hilton's new policy, so I don't think that it is fair that Hampton Inns show up in this thread. Ditto for Homewood Suites and Embassy Suites.
