I like this property and couldn't have asked for more attentive service. I was assigned a king room on the Executive floor - my kind of decor and bathed in daylight. While the windows do not open there was minimal noise from the AC system.

Selected photographs:

View of the Calypso development and desk area. Note UK power socket in addition to EU sockets.

Refreshments station

Top shelf temptation. The Spa mineral water was complimentary (HH Gold benefit)

Mini-bar contents

Teas, sachets of instant coffee, milk, and Belgium chocolates

Nespresso - 6 lungo pods

Great photo impression.

By the way, from the end of July and continuing all August long the prepaid rate is only 71 euro. (Edit: was) If you have access to certain rate types, you may even find better options. (Edit: would have found)

The EL is serving fresh oysters every now and then. ^

Hilton Rotterdam vs Antwerp

How is the Hilton Rotterdam compared to Hilton Antwerp? I will be in the area mid-September and debating whether to stay one or two night night at the Hilton Rotterdam or Antwerp. Parking at Antwerp is ~19 euros per day, whereas Rotterdam is ~30 euros (is there a lower cost option nearby?)

I've been to Hilton Antwerp several times in the past year and like the Executive Lounge, although I've always been assigned an Executive room and no suites of any kind.

I wouldn't mind driving an hour out of the way top Rotterdam if it's worth my while.

The information written here in 2013 became a bit outdated, though not fully. However, updating it would now require even more ifs and buts and exceptions so I decided to delete it.

HILTON ROTTERDAM, DEFINITELY POOR TREATMENT of This HH(G)
I can NOT recommend Hilton Rotterdam ! !
(Whereas had great stay the previous night at excellent Hilton Antwerp ^)

o Booked Exec Room in advance.
o Checkin welcomed if HH(G) told by checkin upgraded to Exec Suite
HH Golds... Avoid Hilton Rotterdam, Disgraceful Treatment
A LIE .... Same as booked, Plain Exec Room , Worse = NO BATH !

o Room was instead the bog std Exec I had booked WITH SHOWER NO BATH a completely unacceptable result I require a bath
o Straight to reception (same staff member) to say room is unacceptable as lacks a bath, and why tell me I am upgraded to Exec Suite when I get Exec Room SAME AS BOOKED ... Which is NOT AN UPGRADE, NOT A SUITE
o Stupid Op repeats we upgradec you, mentions Exec Suite again at which point I interrupt and tell her not to tell me
a)It is a suite (multiple times)
b)It is an upgrade
o OP finally stops talking about a non-existant upgrade, volunteers to find me a room with bath, saying Exec rooms are a mix of bath + shower only.
o I mention as Gold I am dissapointed to receive no upgrade, OP replies if they a Suite / J-Suite she would give it to me but they don't.

o Took Exec room with bath, checked online immediately, J-suites available, not even last few as no 'Last nn rooms text

Spoke later with Lounge staff member, who said at weekends they do not sell Deluxe Rooms (to avoid wrong type of guests staying) and release on Exec Rooms upwards. But Reception OP was informed by me I had booked Exec (not Deluxe) so Exec room is no upgrade

If I want room with SHOWER ONLY, when paying out of my own pocket on a weekend, I would have stayed opposite across the road at the new 6month old Hoiday Inn Express at a lower price.

VERY UNSURE IF WORTH GIVING HILTON ROTTERDAM a 2ND CHANCE !

VERY UNSURE IF WORTH ME GIVING HILTON ROTTERDAM a 2ND CHANCE !

Really unsatisfactory stay based on Reception/Checkin treatment totally souring my stay. I don't appreciate being lied to and HH-Gold recognition was NIL for my night.

ROOM
Booked Exec for a Saturday
Received Exec Room SHOWER ONLY (no bath)
(AND on checkin told several LIES, that I was
a)given upgrade
b)upgraded to Suite (Exec Suite repeated by reception OP several times ! )
c)Finally would be upgraded but no suites available )

BAD -
Welcomed as HH-G, given sealed welcome letter ++ reception thanked me for HH Loyalty, being gold, stated "We have upgrade you to Exec Suite on top Floor" I was suprised, Exec Room would be J-Suite, so said a big thanks went to room..... BUT THERE WAS NO UPGRADE AT ALL !
Immediately realised
a)Was Exec Room type booked (no upgrade what so ever )
b)SHOWER ONLY - No bath
(Why can't reception inform at checkin , to avoid wasting 1hour of my time switching to a room with bath .... Reception training says they should mention, I checked in 3pm, so not like short of rooms at checkin)
I Immediately revisited Reception,
a)Rejected room as no bath, mentioned I expected yto be informed of
such during checkin, which would avoid wasting my time and hers resolving
b)Mentioned I booked Exec Room so was not upgrade. Stupid clerk stated again 'I upgradecd you to King Exec Suite.
This really really annoyed me, I did not book Exec, (not deluxe), so not any sort of upgrade. It is std room, no suite.
c)I stopped her, explained I would be greatful if OP stipped calling a std Exec Room a Suite, that I had booked Exec and am doubly dissapointed as i)no upgrade ii)was told at checkin I was getting upgraded to Suite
d)OP found me room Exec Room with bath, no apology, body language/tone that OP was doing me a favour. OP even stated she would be giving me a upgrade to suite but all booked
A bit stupid with internet around, no shortage of bookable J-Suites or better Suites. An obvious LIE

GOOD
o Lounge
Now on ground floor after hotel refurb.Well I had booked Exec so had already. OK drinks in evening, some OK hot nibbles. Friendly Lounge staff. Breakfast rather limited in lounge, breakfast in restraunt, followed by coffee in Lounge.
o Breakfast
Included in room rate, also as Gold too I guess ref welcom letter bullett "Breakfast Inclusive without limiting to xxxx eg Buffett". Restaurant reasonable, chef cooking eggs/omeletto order whilst one waits.

Attempted Recovery -
In my absence, they left the Diamond wine/glasses tray pack. Not really appreciated, a Chilean Red. If management wanted to recover they should have corrected room allocation !

Note- I can only assume during week days, Golds booking Deluxe get upgraded to Exec Rooms. So at weekends when minimum bookable Rooms are Exec Rooms ... NO UPGRADES ! ! ++ LIED TOO

HH Gold Welcome Letter includes bullet(s) -[LIST][*]Spouse stays free[*]Free Internet[*]E-Checkin available
  • 2 Bottles water/Day
  • Comp Internet
  • 25% points bonus
  • Breakfast inclusive
  • "An upgrade to the Executive Floor"
  • 1000 pts bonus (choose in MyWay)

So Upgrade worthless for HH-Golds ref letter outlining known Gild bennies, saying I get upgrade to Exec Floor, when I already booked an Exec Room.
Should be plenty of J/S + Suites, each room on a corner of building is a Suite! Not even like Lounge is near Exec Floors, nothing more annoying than top 14th floor room whilst exec lounge being on ground floor.

I cannot share scubaccr experiences at Rotterdam. I had never stayed there before but I receive an upgrade to an Executive Suite that was definitely a suite! It was a wonderful upgrade well inside the 'suite' category. The staff here are really exceptional, but in general I find Dutch people take a great pride in hospitality. Not that any other nationality don't , in general I receive really very good treatment at all Hilton Hotels. You must always charm the staff and treat them in the same way you yourself expect to be treated.

My only dislikes would be the lounge no longer has spirits, no afternoon tea and limited hot options in the lounge. But Duvel is available which to me makes all the difference! Having said that the restaurant is very good and quite reasonable for Hilton standards. It is not possible to order food in the lounge which is quite common among hotels that have relocated their lounge to the ground floor (such as Berlin). I note there is also an offer for an early dining promo for €32 for two people for two courses in the restaurant, exceptional value.

It reminds me that the disparity of lounge standards across Europe is quite ridiculous.

In defence of scubaccr, having booked an Executive Room he/she is entitled to a one category upgrade that in this case would mean a Junior Suite, if available. I do support a Gold member receiving a suite as a one category upgrade.

I'll definitely be back to RTM.

Are you sure? Remember i booked an Exec Room . HH Golds are entitled to 1-level upgrade from which ever type is booked.

If I as an HH Gold book an Exec Room, I am still entitled to a 1-level upgrade, which is to a J/suite

and lack of upgrade is inexcusable as my immediate online check was showing plenty J/suites available, (ie not limited as not saying eg last 3 rooms of J/suite type), as far as I am concerned Hilton Rotterdam's treatment is inexcusable.

HHonors T&C's:
Gold HHonors guests receive upgrades to preferred rooms, which may include the next-best available room from the room type booked. Upgrades may also include rooms with desirable views, corner rooms, rooms on high floors, rooms with special amenities, or rooms on Executive Floors, as identified by each property. Upgrades exclude executive suites, villas and specialty accommodations (which may include, but not limited to, "Vista" and "Villa" accommodation types), subject to the discretion of the hotel.

In other words, any time a Gold member receives an upgrade to a suite (s)he is getting lucky and receiving a benefit over and above the "entitlement"

This is a 4+ star property in the center of Rotterdam, 10 minute walk to the central station (and 5 to the casino .) As a Diamond I have always received an upgrade, with about 50% of the time to an end of hall suite. The long and winding renovation project is nearing its end. Most impressive is the staff- they cannot do too much ^.

Mmmmmm, Duvel. A tour of their brewery is a lot of fun and highly recommended if you are in the area. Combine it with a stop at Het Anker in Mechelen, pretty nearby. Great pub/restaurant/hotel.

I have to disagree, basically your interpretation says Golds should not book a room type higher than 1-level below Exec.

A gold paying for an Exec Room should be considered for upgrade to next room type before a Diamond paying less and booking Basic room. Hotel should eg upgrade Gold from Exec to j-suite and Diamond from Basic to Exec, if both can not be upgraded to J-suite.
