The actual question should be : Why in the world the Greeks have built an airport in the middle of nowhere?

Don't get me wrong, the new airport is great. It is just a pain in the neck to get to and from. At 4h30 you should not have any problem getting to the airport, regardless of the hotels, as they are all within few square miles.

Give yourself about 1 hour to get to the airport, as since they are rushing to get ready for the Olympic Games, you may encounter some delays on the road.

All three hotels are within blocks of each other. I haven't been to Greece since they built the new airport. Let us know how the hotel looks since it was refurb.

How is the Athens Hilton?

Will be staying on an ALON award in mid May.
Any insight would be very much appreciated...Understand renovations are to be finished next month.

Hilton Athens

Has it reopened? If so, has anyone stayed there and if so, how are the rooms post renovation?

Reopened Athens Hilton

Has anyone stayed there since its reopening earlier this year? If so, how were the renovations? I ask because I'm debating using points for a standard room there versus staying at the Athens Intercontinental where I have an outstanding rate on a club level studio room.

Athens Hilton

I'm still trying to get a report on the reopened Athens Hilton. How does it stack up to the Intercontinental? I ask because I'm debating between using 85,000 pts for a free room (for 3) at the Hilton or using the great rate I negotiated for a club level, jr suite at the Intercontinental.

I like the Intercontinental better, however Hilton is more central and closer to a lot of attractions. Why don't you stay at the absolute best, the Grande Britaigne? Special rate now of only E220. Or only 10k Starwood points per night. You will save on transportation at the G.B., Intercontinental will cost you on all the taxi rides. I spent 5 years in Athens.

There is still a lot of construction work going on outside the hotel - pool area and a large crane still reaches to the top floor.

However, once inside the feeling is very modern - glass, light woods and marble abound.

The staff at the lounge on the 11th floor checked me and were really helpful. Lounge is open all day with a rotating selection of food and drink. Nice view of the Acropolis - lots of tables, coffee machine, and newspapers with two TV's.

Rooms have nice deep bath surrounded by marble, a seperate shower.

Large bed with small TV but high speed internet access. Movies plus HS internet is EUR35 for 24 hours.

Marble bottom balcony with table and two chairs over looks building works, but nice anyway if a bit noisy.
