Best ORD area Hilton Honors Property?

I will be spending one night at ORD before driving up to Milwaukee the following day. The trip had to be done for cheap, so it was much cheaper to fly in on Saturday and stay overnight. but that also means that to get a good price on my car rental, I will be picking that up Saturday night and having to park it somewhere as well. My only entertainment goal is to find good pizza somewhere - whether that means somewhere near the hotel, or taking the train into Chicago proper.

It looks like most properties are around the same price-wise, and even in points cost. So, if you had your choice of any HHonors properties near O'hare, which would you choose?

I recommend the Hilton Garden Inn on River Road. Nice, quiet rooms with FREE parking. There's a Hilton and Doubletree just down the road but they charge for parking and I've found the Hilton to be quite noisy with incoming planes. The HGI is right next to the Rivers Casino if you're so inclined and there's a Giordano's Pizza close by as well.

I agree the hgi is a great property with free parking and the Giordano's Pizza is close by. The restaurant in the hgi is pretty good and has a great bar just in case the weather is bad.

The Doubletree O'Hare Rosemont is usually reasonably priced and a decent hotel. Its right nearby the Rosemont CTA stop. There is also the O'Hare Rosemont Hilton and Embassy Suites there as well

The Rosemont Hilton has a shuttle and Restaurants in walking distance. If you use the Shuttle no need to rent a car which will save you a rental day.

That was my original thought. But then I realized that I saved $50 by being able to do a weekly rental by picking it up Saturday.

I'll admit I have not stayed at a Garden Inn for a few years. Do they still have those infernal air beds?

I was at the Embassy Suites Rosemont on an overnight delay a couple of weeks ago... pretty much your standard ES, but the restaurant was pretty decent. It was the cheapest on short notice at ~$129 with no corp code (booked from mobile prior to takeoff in PHX) and next door to the Doubletree Rosemont.

I just stayed at the Hilton Rosemont last week...

  • Shuttle to/from ORD every 20 minutes.
  • Much improved comp breakfast (I am Diamond--not sure if Golds get the same or not)--their full buffet...You used to get to pick an item.
  • Comfy bed, quiet, although the room is a bit on the small side.
  • Decent bar/restaurant.
  • No executive lounge.

It's my first choice unless I can get the Hilton O'Hare for under $150. It's usually in the $120 range with the MVP discount.

I've used that HGI and they'll pick you up at ORD and drop you at an El station, so it's easy to get into the loop from there.

We really like the Doubletree in Rosemont. We will stay there on "date nights" when were seeing a show at the adjacent Rosemont Theater. They are currently finishing a renovation of all of the rooms, (we usually stay on the 6th, which we know has been completed) and the rooms are very nice. There is a parking garage attached by covered walkways to the hotel. If you self park it is $13.00 per night.(Which is cheaper than the $20.00 the theater charges for show parking!) Gibson's Steakhouse is attached, as well as a hotel restaurant. Breakfast at the restaurant (free for Diamond's, not sure for Gold's) is very nice, especially for a guy that's used to Hampton Inn breakfasts. All in all a nice property...

I know, lot's of information, but we like the place!

I ended up reserving the Hilton. They had a really good parking package, which is the biggest concern for me. Staying on a Saturday sure helps prices!

Hiltons in Chicago (Exec Lounge)

Dear All,

I am going with my wife to Chicago in week of 27th April for 5-day holidays. I was planning to use my HHonors points to stay in one of Hilton and leverage my Diamond status to get an access to Executive Lounge, like I always did while travelling & working in Europe. As I never stayed in Hilton in US before I did my research to choose the best option (incl. valuable insights from this forum), but it seems to me that Exec Lounge experience differ a lot between US and Europe. In hotels I visited so far (London, Vienna, Prague) I was always granted access to Exec Lounge (as Diamond member) and the concept was quite similar:
•full breakfast in the morning (could freely choose between Restaurant and Lounge)
•For most of the day Lounge open with cold & hot drinks and some snacks & fruits
•2-3 hours during the evening with free beverages, alcohol (wine, whisky, etc.) and some hot & cold snacks /food

As I understand in Hiltons in US (Chicago) is a little bit different. Firstly, you can be refused access to Lounge even being a Diamond member (e.g. The Drake) and then there is no time when you can have wine / drinks for free (you pay what you consumed based on your declaration) ? Moreover, I understand that for Diamonds the breakfast is always guaranteed, but sometimes you cannot eat in the restaurant (you have to do it in lounge, where I guess variety is limited)?

As said, initially I wanted to choose one of the Hilton in Chicago with Executive Lounge (i.e. The Drake, Palmer House, Hilton Chicago or Hilton Chicago/Magnificent Mile Suites), paying for them with points, but if Diamond benefits are so limited I am not sure and probably would like to consider other options.

I would appreciate all insights about Exec Lounges in Hiltons in Chicago. Of course any other information / suggestions about Hiltons in Chicago are welcomed. Thank you in advance!
