Cat 7=5 hotel went to Cat 7. Normally 35K/night (before change). Off peak after change is 24K/night for 5 days. One of the few sweet spots.

Indeed I would not redeem 6,000 points for ~$39. Of course it is not a ton of points and if you are more points-rich than me your opinion may differ.

Not sure how beneficial this could be for the frequent travelers that hit diamond annually but for others I found a way to reach diamond status for a total of 105,000 points or less pending promotions. only catch is it would be extremely inconvenient and you have to stay at a Cat 1 hotel with a reward points value of 5,000 aka the Richmond airport double tree, which will be my example case and have a AMEX card that give 500 bonus points per online booking. Here's how:
1. Book reward stay for 5,000 points
2. minus out double tree 1,000 Gold or Diamond VIP bonus for any stay
3. minus out AMEX 500 online booking bonus making the stay a 3,500 point net amount

3,500 x 30 stays = 105,000 points = Diamond Member

if nothing else its an easy way at the end of the year to reach a particular status.

Except diamond is now 120,000 points (edit: never mind, read too quick and missed the 30 stays)

If HHonnors has the 1k or 2k per night quarterly promo that would reduce the needed points as well (however to be safe you would want to purchase something and charge it to the room to make sure you have a balance at checkout)

Minneapolis, MN

I found a great value at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Minneapolis in late September. With "5th night free", stay costs 120,000 points vs. over $1,000 if paid in cash - a value of about 0.9 cents/point.

Hilton Los Cabos - AKA My paradise

Before 125K on AXON = 31,250 per night
Today 160K 5th night free low season = 32,000 (Value ~0.9cpp)

I am returning in November!

Any "Sweet Spot" Redemptions out there?

I know there's been a lot of talk about the type of redemptions after the devaluation, 5th night free vs. axon, etc. but this is a slightly different question.

Anyone have thoughts on specific properties that remain a particularly good value within the range of points required in their category, or still a great value in general? I've got plenty of miles, so I'm looking into taking a random trip just to redeem my 200k-250k Hilton points.

Thanks for the tips!

5k points at DTree Richmond, VA airport

5k points at DTree Richmond, VA airport location. Stayed there two weeks ago, very satisfactory hotel in every respect. Room was excellent and as a Diamond I received chits for 2 free drinks per person and free appetizer. Full hot breakfast in morning.

Over Labor Day the Premium Rooms were cheaper than the standard reward. Suites were going for just over 38k for single night.

FYI - The Doubletree Richmond Airport is now 10K, not 5K per night. Still admittedly a good deal, but it takes away one of the more appealing category 1s.

A sweet spot for me is the seasonal Honors specials at Hilton Waikoloa in the fall: 28,031 points for a deluxe oceanview, 27,939 for oceanview, both less than 5th night free.
