Gold and Diamond members receive a $13 per person room charge credit. Solo travellers asking nicely can receive a $26 credit by having the room listed as double occupancy. (or just book for two)
Credit can be used at most on-property venues except Chill'm. Gratuities cannot be applied against this credit. You are not obliged to apply this credit against breakfast.
Breakfast buffet costs $26. A take-away breakfast is available at the food court for $13.
Resorts fees are NOT added to award stays using all points.

As Diamond, just completed a stay. Hotel is very plain and simple. If it were not for the conference was on site, would have not stayed here.
Booked a standard room, got a standard room, high floor in Bungalow area, pool view. Not sure if it is an upgrade. Rooms seemed in good shape, but very plain.
Resort fee $28, which includes a lot of things you get for free in as Gold/Diamond, so aka RIP OFF.
Gold & Diamond both receive a continental breakfast; pick 4 items from a wide selection, cafeteria style breakfast area; Items included Sandwich, pastries, etc. Can upgrade to full breakfast at restaurant for $14.99
Free parking.
The only other benefit is that we got $30 off bar tab. Overpriced drinks anyways, but better than nothing. If I would have known this, I would have booked individual nights.
The only benefit I liked was that there is a separate Diamond check in room. Sit down, cold water upon arrival. The regular check in line was about 25 people deep, so this is a nice benefit.
Ok stay, but better options for the price.
Uber to and from airport was about $15.
Used MVP rate.

Just completed a stay there. Diamond member. Checked in via the Diamond lounge which saved me a little time since there was a small line at the regular check in. Received a $30 drink credit at the bar which was removed from my bill after charging to my room. They give you vouchers to pick up the cookies but I didn't bother.
I did not do the free contintental breakfast or the buffet since my conference was providing a pretty decent breakfast in another hotel.
Rooms are a bit dated. I had a suite in the paradise tower which was more than enough room, especially since I was flying solo.
I used the MVP rate as well.

The new ownership has really clamped down on comps that the hosts can offer.
In Dec-Jan I had a 10 day stay there, and the entire thing was comped in advance, including the resort fee. My gambling level during that time was also high enough so that any meals I ate in the hotel were also comped at check out.
Now, if I wanted to do the same thing, I would get three separate reservations and if my gambling level was not high enough in the first I would have to pay for the second, and if the gambling was not enough in the second I would have to pay for the third.
Note that total play is not important. I could gamble a million dollars in the first, get the second free, but if I don't play enough in the second I would still have to pay for the third.
Additionally, the resort fee would not be waived, no matter how much I played.
To top it off, one of the 10 days I was considering being there is a black out date so it cannot be comped.
Ah well, I will save most of the cost of a Biz flight TLV-LAS and instead take my ex and my daughter to Venice for a week. Fortunately, my Venice hotel is very close to the municipal casino.

3rd party booking
Any recent data points on whether the hotel honors elite benefits on 3rd party bookings? Of course they don't have to, especially in light of the HH terms change in June. But I guess it's still YMMV with individual properties...

I would say based on my points I received that yes the resort fee is calculated into the points. One of my nights was tripled the other doubled. Rate was $175.20 and resort fee was $25. This was on a 4 night stay.

We were there for 3 days at a conf rate. Booked a cheap room, and were upgraded to a suite (husband is a diamond) Breakfast was the full buffet, not the cafe as has been reported. This is true for golds also now. Cookies in the Diamond lounge. Very responsive to all requests. Dated hotel, but clean rooms, and a good stay.

The new owners of the Trop are much better. The past owners sucked. I will leave it at that.

***Was the buffet included in your conference package? Or are Gold/Diamonds getting the buffet again? I mostly stopped going here because of them taking away the breakfast benefit. However I did stay in January for a night: as Diamond, got only the cafe egg bagel or cold snack offerings. And I asked about full breakfast on check in - was told no.
I'd like this property more if it wasn't for the screens over the windows. I know a weird nitpick, but the rooms always seem dark and I like to be able to look out over the Strip without feeling like I'm behind some high security fence.

Howdy folks! I'm checking into the Tropicana next week and wondered if anyone here could tell me the location of the Diamond lounge? Also, do they still perform diamond checkins in the diamond lounge? Thanks!!

Unless it has moved it is just past the normal check-in - you'll see the signs when you come to normal check-in. Half the time I checked-in on though they had a massive queue at the normal check-in and hadn't opened the Diamond one!

I have a conference at Mandalay Bay in the fall and need to stay somewhere close by for 10 days. Is this hotel within walking distance of Mandalay Bay and are there any room types or towers I should look for or avoid?
I'm guessing this place is treated more like a resort and there are no perks besides a free drink?

It's an easy walk. It's probably a little less than a mile and the other side of the street a few blocks down (IIRC it's south of the Trop). If you are going during the day your best bet is probably to walk to the Lexor or Exalibur (can't remember which one is closest) and take the free tram to Mandalay bay, would save you a little bit of walking.

If your conference starts after 9am, you can take the tram for free. It's a quick walk over the Las Vegas Blvd bridge from the Tropicana to the Excalibur, where you pick up the tram.
If you need to get there earlier than 9am, figure 20 minutes of walking from the Excalibur , through the Luxor , and into the Mandalay Bay. I had to do this for several days since my conference started at 8am.
You can also pick up the tram when coming back from the Mandalay Bay.
