Sadly there is a lot of truth in your observation. It is more important to hire staff who speak Mandarin rather than English and the labor shortage in Macau is severe. However, that's where the money is as the majority of visitors are Chinese from China and Hong Kong. I would cut the Conrad some slack though. The openings of the Grand Hyatt and the Venetian were not that smooth either and look at the progress they've made. I'll be at the Conrad next month and hopefully things will be better.

We second this observation from our recent visit. It was also interesting to read some of the trade mags on the ferry from HKG to Macau where many articles focused on the need to raise the service levels and standards if Macau was to have an international clientele. OTOH, there are certainly plenty of mainland chinese tourists close by who want to visit, and gamble. We found the old historic center very interesting, but didnt need to come half way around the world to visit Hard Rock or Venetian.

I just cancelled my previous reservation and rebooked the Great Getaway rate and it went from HKD $1803 to $1198.50. What a great deal!

I just returned from a stay at the Conrad Macau last week. What a nice hotel! I was upgraded to a Club suite without even asking and it was over 1000 sf. The Conrad club lounge was huge and took up an entire floor. The staff were really well trained...amazing for such a new hotel. Everybody I came across was friendly and spoke English well. I speak Cantonese but it was either Mandarin or English for most of the staff. The hotel was not very large, I think it only had a few hundred rooms and there were no restaurants in the hotel itself. The elevators for the Holiday Inn were in the next corridor so it was a little confusing at first. Only the ground level shops and restaurants in the adjoining shopping arcade were open but I think there will be three levels eventually. I stayed in a suite at the Grand Hyatt in March which was very nice but I actually prefer the Conrad's suite which had a larger living room and a much larger bathroom.

The only restaurant I tried was the Rice Bowl which was O.K. although a little pricey. I prefer going into Macau downtown for dining anyway. There were only shuttle buses to the two ferry terminals but the Grand Hyatt next door had buses going into downtown Macau. A taxi ride across the bridge to Macau was less than US $10. Of all the hotels I have stayed at in Macau, I liked the Conrad best. The Wynn had nicer suites but if you are not a gambler, it would be very expensive.

Ferry from HKG?

Hello. Assume same routine from HKG. Ferry then a shuttle bus with Conrad logo on it to property? Cotai ferry correct? Any and all info appreciated. Thanks.

The Cotai Ferry is closer to the Hotel but the hike from the ferry to the Immigration counters is quite a bit further so if you have a lot of luggage, it may be better to take the jetfoil into Macau proper. There are shuttle buses from both ferry terminals. Look for the Sands Cotai Central bus. It will be the one to the extreme left as you come out of the Cotai terminal. The bus will be for the Conrad, Holiday Inn, and Sheraton. The bus will stop in front of the Holiday Inn. The entrance to the Conrad is about 20-30 yards to the right of the Holiday Inn entrance. The check-in area is inside a huge room to your right as you enter. The receptionist will personally escort you up to your room.

Wow!

Hello from the Conrad Macau. I was able to put in a just less than 24 stop in HKG. Upon exiting plane followed signs to Macau Ferries. For what I understood ferries from HKG airport only go to Macau main ferry terminal. I purchased the superseat which was a good idea as Y is held back while superseat passengers exit. That got me past immigration in about five minutes. When exiting you need to cross to the hotel bus parking area. The Sands Cotai Central bus is to the left middle when looking at the lot. Use the underground tunnel to the otherside. As mentioned before the Conrad is to the right when exiting the bus. If you have large luggage or a roller board is will be stored under the bus so I would caution against any valuables.

I had been in contact with the property prior to my arrival. Was hoping for a upgrade which I did receive a king club non-smoke suite. Very very very nice. It would rank in the top ten of suites in my life. The suite is class. Amenity is Acca Kappa, the clear gold duck with dice inside, gold Conrad bear and unique his/her slippers in fashionable colors. Two welcome letters and a glass Conrad jar with candy in it. So cool. The Fiji water is a nice touch.

Internet is slow.

The Lounge is indeed huge with many private spaces. Looking forward to tomorrow seeing it in full operation. The Lounge is larger than the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong but lacks the style and small touches. I was told the Lounge at the Conrad may go 24/7 in the next month. That is not 100%.

The Conrad is very nice and considering this is Macau a island in a sea of gambling. This evening went to the Galaxy. If you want to be very conservative there are buses on the lower level rear of property near the McDonalds. I took a cab back which was 22 HKD. Cheers form the Conrad.

Sorry for the many posts. The internet keeps bouncing me out. That entertainment room is pretty cool in the suite. Similar to what the Wynn does in Las Vegas as a in room massage treatment room.

Just curious, what room did you originally book?
Thanks,

No problem. I booked points and cash King deluxe city view. It seems very clear the Conrad wants to be the place people looking for a balance want to stay at. Reminds me of the Four Seasons atop the Mandalay Bay Las Vegas. The property is running 95 to 98% since opening. Looking at the floor map for this very high floor looks as if four rooms have more space/larger. In terms of a view this is probably the best. You can clearly see the Crown, Hard Rock and Grand Hyatt towers at City of Dreams. The building co-ordinated light show is pretty neat. You can also see water which I did not think was possible last evening.

The a/v is complete with three large flat panels with two having docking stations one JBL and the other Yamaha. You can not tell who the tv manufacturer is. There is also a tv in the tub area wall. Dining table for four, half moon shape sofa, side chair with ottoman, Nepresso machine, marble entry, huge walk-in shower for ten, small toilet room, entry closet, closet in bathroom and so forth.

What was the Galaxy like? I have opportunity to choose Grand Hyatt as Platinum, Conrad as Gold or Galaxy no status. Conrad best?

Thanks.
