Wanted to extend kudos to beltway as well. The devaluation, however extreme and painful, left many wondering how to best utilize points. Your insight and spreadsheet are invaluable!

The AXON is a American Express program using Hilton points booked through AE

If I were to book a 5-7 days on points, is it better to do it on the website or call the hotel directly and try to cut a deal?

For booking using points, it will be the same. However u can call hotel to get a better room or a better cash rate.

I note that some hotels have renamed thier standard rooms as "deluxe" rooms and that means you can no longer use standard number of points to get in but have to use premium points becaus you are recieving a standard room.
Post #1 discusses in some detail the issue you've raised, and identifies http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...ust-facts.html and http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...s-program.html as the relevant threads.

I've updated posts 1 through 11
  • to reflect new info from Hilton, including an official statement that "we have no plans to make major reward category changes, add new hotel reward categories or make any new major changes to the HHonors program this year."
  • to clarify the different point cost levels within each reward category.
  • to fix assorted links & outdated references.

If you haven't already, please take the Hilton Optimizer spreadsheet for a spin. As discussed in post #11, this Excel file calculates the best reward option -- standard (with 5th night free), AXON, or a combination thereof -- for any hotel category and stay duration (up to 20 nights).

Hi guys. I'm confused about how many points per $ do you earn with the Citi Reserve card staying at hilton properties. Do the points stack? The visa says it earns 10 points. Does that mean you earn 25 points / $ with the points and points option or am I off here?

Yes and no.

Not all charges to a room's folio are eligible for HHonors point accrual. Examples are taxes and charges from entities that are not owned by the hotel.

So, for charges to a room's folio eligible for HHonors point accrual, yes you will earn 25 points/$ if the folio is paid with the HHonors Citi Reserve card. For charges to a room's folio not eligible for HHonors point accrual you will earn only the 10 points/$ charged to the HHonors Citi Reserve card.

I booked a 5 night reward stay in Charleston, SC at a reward CAT 5 property for 120K points. It lists this as a "Diamond Standard Room Rate". I did not see this listed as a different rate? Is this any different from any the 5th night free rate?

Attempted Point Fleecing

Prior to logging in I found award nights for Hilton Vienna in April for 30,000 points per night. Upon logging in "Rate no longer available", now 69.000 points a night!

I tried several more times while logged off and 30,000 point nights were still shown as available, but each time I logged in to book the rate went up to 69,000 points a night.

Called the Diamond Line and was able to book for 30,000 points/night.

Is this a common Hilton scheme?

FAQ (at posts 1 through 11) revised to
  • provide updated counts for number of properties in each Hilton award category
  • link to further information on the new Curio & Canopy brands
