Istanbul Doubletree-nonsmoking suites?

We were thinking of booking Istanbul DT old town with HH, but website shows all suites are smoking? DH thinks this is an error as one website shows the entire hotel as non-smoking??

Has anyone booked a nonsmoking suite there? Is it worth booking a nonsmoking king suite with a balcony?? Are these the best choice for quiet rooms?

TIA for any advice....I have searced the threads, but didn't see a match on the smoking topic.

I think it is a glitch with the website. I had the same experience in Luxor and contacted the hotel directly to get nonsmoking. I also saw one or more other posts on FT about this problem. Contact the hotel.

Having seen that property I can assure you 100% of all accomodation is non-smoking.

Just head towards Grand Bazaar, and go a little beyond it. There is a significant restaurant area with good options. We dined in a few--forget their names. It seemed like there were many good choices.

Kayikci fish restaurant in Ticarethanol, just up from Divan near the Sultanahmet tram stop. Superb.

King suite

Does anyone know how big the King Suite rooms are at the DT old town?

I'm travelling with wife and 2 kids (5 & 7). it's cheaper to get a suite if it fits everyone instead of booking 2 rooms.

Just had a great one-night stay at the Doubletree Old Town. Upgraded (as a diamond) to "1 KING SUITE WITH SEPARATE LIVING ROOM" -- given a voucher for free internet and free breakfast. They also delivered a nice amenity platter with nuts, candies, and fruit.

Transportation to/from airport was very easy as well -- this will probably be my new go-to place to stay in Istanbul.

Similar to bworrell, I had a stay at the end of Jan. at the DT Old Town. Also upgraded to a K suite - 2 full baths, a large flat panel TV in each room, and balcony - free breakie and free internet code. I was welcomed to the property via email by the concierge about 3 days in advance (nice touch). Several additional toiletries in the bathroom - like shaving cream (appreciated). The welcome platter was just so-so, but not complaining. Walkable to the attractions I wanted to explore. Great Stay.

I stayed here for 1 night in the fall and absolutely loved this hotel. As a diamond I wasn't upgraded to anything...I don't think. I had a regular room that faced the front street on the second floor. I didn't need anything larger that that. I did get the welcome platter of snacks and a %off coupon for the rooftop restaurant, which I used and it was great. The spa/hammam was also very good.

Off topic: I did stay at the Doubletree in Ankara and was given a huge suite on a high floor. Another great hotel.

Question A few questions (thx in advance)

My parents will be visiting Istanbul for 3 nights (as tourists), and i intend on booking them at the Doubletree By Hilton Istanbul - Old City, I'm Diamond member, my parents are not hhonors registered:

1. Can i reserve room under my name, use my points and get diamond privileges - for my parents to be the guests (i won't be there) ?

2. I've seen some city tours online, seem pricier that what I think you could get if you walked up to a tour operator office on that street. Does anyone have any experience with Tours (a reference to decent service provider would be useful).

3. Can anyone recommend a prearranged Taxi/Limo service to and from airport.

Thanks Guys.

BTW, this is an awesome forum.

Welcome Aasghar to Flyertalk. I agree it is an awesome forum.
The answers to your questions are:
1. You can reserve a room for them using points, however, I don't believe they will get "Diamond" privileges.
2. I book some great tours via this site:http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/go/index.html
3. Try Backpacker Travel for limo/taxi services (and tours)..Approx. 25 Euro from/to IST Airport.

Welcome to FlyerTalk! Glad you like the Forum - there are some very knowledgeable people who are willing to take the time and effort to share with us. ^

It's always possible the property will extend your status to your parents, but it would only be because the property wishes to - ordinarily, your guests would not benefit much from your status other than perhaps room location preferences.

Tom Brosnahan, the author of the website 360guy referred you to, is a super resource. Tom wrote the early Lonely Planet books on Turkey, iirc, and he served there in the Peace Corps - and has continued to enjoy Turkey and share his knowledge with others.

If your parents are tired, elderly or just not used to travel the best gift is a PrimeClass welcome - they are greeted at the jetway, escorted on a golf cart to the visa on arrival queue (where one of your escorts takes the passports, jumps queue and gets the visas in minutes,) taken to the diplomatic queue for processing immigration and then to the luggage carousel. Here, the escort retrieves luggage, and out the door into a nice car or van with a chauffeur and off to the hotel.
