No update from me but as a former SA resident, I wanted to provide two tips.
1) There's a stairway to the Riverwalk just outside the ES on Houston Street, by Luke. It's not the tourist part but any SA resident will tell you that's a good thing. Nor is it any longer at the "end" of the Riverwalk with the completion of the Museum and Mission reaches to the north and south, which are (IMO) far more interesting that the tourist core.

2) Luke's happy hour is one of downtown's better deals. 50c oysters on the half shell! When I worked two blocks north of this my friends and I used to stop in for that regularly. (Luke is the restaurant attached to the hotel)
3) Avoid Acenar, the faux-mexican place catty-corner across the river on Houston unless you just love food poisoning.

Will be staying at this property, and offered online check-in. As a data point, I booked the lowest pre-paid rate with no upgrades added.
Rooms available on ALL floors (5-17) of the property, including a weird room on floor 2? Only single rooms available (city view) above floor 7. River view rooms available on floor 5.

Very Professional Response
I would like to take the time to thank the staff of the San Antonio Embassy Suites Riverwalk for their excellent response to the awful incident at our hotel last week. An armed intruder was shot and killed in the hallway near our room. We were escorted at 6:30am by the Police and taken to the lobby. The hotel was full of swat team members and medical examiner staff and outside flanked by TV crews. While we had to stay out of out room for over 5 hours until we could retrieve items they did a great job of taking care of us. I would also thank the San Antonio Police for stopping the armed intruder from hurting any guests or staff members. They were most professional.
A very bad situation but the Hotel Staff and Police Department were first class!!

Wow. That's quite an unsettling experience. Glad the police (and the hotel) responded so promptly.
