I am in Pattaya now. I had a reservation at the Pattaya Hilton but canceled it several weeks ago based upon more bad reviews on TripAdvisor. The main problems I read were that the swimming pool got no sun most of the day and there were very few pool loungers for the guests.

Today I went and looked at the hotel to see for myself. First of all, the hotel is stunning. It makes the Pattaya Marriott look very dated. The public areas are chic and cool.

As for the swimming pool issue, yes, it does have its problems in that no sun is a problem and it just isn’t designed for guests to use on a major scale.

I think the hotel is trying to attract corporate meetings and maybe Bangkok residents on the weekends who don’t want to sit by the pool and get a suntan. This hotel is not a resort in any sense of the word in that it cannot handle 100’s of guests who want to sit by the pool.

When I was there (11 a.m.) there were three guests lounging by the pool and lots of staff standing around doing nothing. I would give this hotel a pass unless you are attending a corporate meeting there and just want to stay at a beautiful hotel.

NOT recommended.

Parking:- although parking is done within the Central Pattaya Plaza, no designated places for folks staying at the Hilton could be found (although there were designated places for others)

Checkin:- done on the 16th floor. Although a "Gold" member had to fight for Executive Lounge access first being told that Executive floor upgrade not available (checked on this issue before we drove up from Bangkok and knew they were) so no lounge access, but after a 10-minute debate finally got Exec Lounge access without a room upgrade.

Rooms:- only saw our standard deluxe and deluxe plus rooms but all seemed to be a standard 46SM. Although rooms look to have "hip" decoration, they are not very functional. Office chair on light wooden floors without any plexiglass will mar up like the Hilton in KL within weeks. Easy chair is built for someone no taller then 5-ft! No idea which light switches work which lights. Small balcony without a table and/or chairs. Overall, the room made me feel clostrophobic.

Executive Lounge:- located on the 33rd floor with access by a seperate key card (but same color as room key so you need to seperate the keys to know which one is room/floor and which one is EL) kept at 19C, which I know was not set by the Thai staff as they'd set it at 35C. Felt the icey chill was to drive folks out of the lounge, which it managed to do to me and others as staff took no notice of requests to make it a bit warmer! Although more then 100+ seating, never saw more then 10. The oval chairs, like the room chair, is built for midgets. Outside balcony seating for no more then 10.

Pool:- no deeper then 1.2M. Lounge chairs/beds for no more then 30 people (in a property with over 300 rooms; so say 600 people, that's totally insufficient)

Carpets:- again, "hip" look with cool salmon colors. Already starting to fray and the staff must use toothbrishes to clean the stains on a daily basis.

Noise:- music coming from in front of Pattaya Plaza until 4AM. Construction noise throughout the day.

Overall Opinion:- we stayed the previous weekend (Thai Kings birthday) at the Marriott Pattaya in a renovated Terrace room. I've been going to this Marriott before it was a Marriott (then Royal Gardens - like the one in Hua Hin). I preferred the Marriott and on our next trip to Pattaya for the Superbowl we'll be returning to the Marriott, hands down!

Sorry for the late report, but here goes.

Check In :- Dropped off by taxi at front doors, the concierge asked our name and immediately realised we were Diamond and whisked us up to the 16th floor to check us in where we were met by Sophia (Executive Floor Manager) who promptly told us that we had been upgraded to the executive floor with a room with an outside tub on the balcony (requested by myself via e-mail).

Room :- I have to agree with all of BKKLEE's comments, the room was very easy on the eye but not very practical with very poor storage for clothing, suitcases, etc.
The first night the noise coming from Soi 8 lasted until 3am and was ridiculously loud, so we contacted the Executive Lounge to ask to be downgraded to a room on the left hand side of the building away from the noise, Sophia was excellent and moved us to a Deluxe room but we were still allowed access to Executive Lounge. I have to say the Deluxe room is as good as the Executive floor rooms although the balconies are small but no noise so would certainly recomend a room on the left side of the building.

Executive Lounge :- The staff were really friendly and attentative, the snacks were very average and the drinks didn't really flow, the outdoor seating area was nice, but again the design was more for style than practicality.

Pool :- Not very big at all, very cold. The loungers on the upper deck were very good for sunbathing and get the sun until 2pm on the afternoon, after 2pm you can also catch the sun on the loungers in the Drift bar on the 16th floor.

Overall Opinion :- I normally stay at the Dusit Thani and although it is not as stylish as the Hilton, taking everything into account I think that Hilton would need to have a good offer on for me to book there again as the Dusit can be 50% cheaper, the rooms are very good, and the pools are a great deal better.

I can confirm HILTON-VIP's comments.

I stayed one week at Hilton Pattaya in the beginning of February together with my wife. As a Diamond VIP member we were upgraded to an executive floor 3119 on the 31st floor.

The room did not have an outside bathtube though it was an executive floor. The balcony was very small. We had to take the sofa outside as there were no chairs in the balcony. The sliding glass door opens enough. The sliding glass door is not sound proofed. It is very hard to sleep in the evening as there is very loud musing coming from the bars nearby.

Executive lounge is intended for businessmen. They assume you are wearing a suit with jacket or a shirt with long sleeves. It is impossible to spend time in the lounge without a jacket because airconditioning makes the lounge so cold.

In the executive lounge buffet (hours d'ouvres) there is just bread and fruits. They will serve you canapes to your table but just four pieces. If you arrive to the lounge hungry you will leave it hungry. Cocktail hour is only from 6.00 pm to 8.30 pm (to 8.00 pm on weekends).

As we stayed in Thailand for two weeks we had some luggage/clothes with us. The room lacked storage space for clothes. There are enough coat hangers but no place for other clothes.

If you visit Hilton Pattaya, I would suggest to ask for a room with outside bathtub even if it not an executive room. Deluxe plus rooms are better than ordinary executive rooms as they have an outside bathtub.

We also suffered from the pool having too few sun loungers. The upper deck was closed. We managed to get a sunny sun lounger only on one day. The water temprature in the pool is cool. I would have liked warmer water more.

I do not recommend this hotel unless you don't want to sleep until 3 am and are not looking for sun/swimming.

The Hilton website says:

"The Executive Lounge is currently closed for refurbishment until further notice. Alternative facilities are available for guests staying in Executive Rooms and Suites."

As a quite new hotel, how could the Exec lounge need refurbishment already? Has anything happened? And what are the "alternative facilities"?

Wow, that's a perfect pitch for the Pattaya market

Website still says that. Does someone know why? Or what are the "alternative facilities"?

They have some repair near the executive lounge so they decided to close it until the construction finish.

For the alternative, you have to go for a drink at the drift near swimming pool instead.

What this really means? Any snacks? Limited drinks?

Try as I may, I just can’t find anything negative to say about my recent stay in Pattaya Hilton. I only spent one night there but I wish it was longer. The building itself is impressive and it is centrally located. Upon arrival, I stopped at the reception desk on the 16th floor and was immediately escorted to the executive lounge for check-in ( I am a diamond ). From the lounge balcony, drink in hand, I gawked at the beautiful view of the beach and the boats below. After formalities of the check-in have been magically taken care of I was again escorted to my room. It was located on the 31st floor, overlooking the swimming pool many floors below. My reservation was for a King Deluxe Room but I suspect I was upgraded a category or two ( I never asked for an upgrade ). The room was airy and modern with great views. It had a small balcony with a comfortable chair and a table. Inside the room there was a basket of fresh fruit, a welcome letter from the management and (2) business newspapers. I liked the robe, slippers, fancy single-serving coffee machine, nice tray of toiletries, fresh flowers, numerous water bottles, nice safe with internal lighting, good quality make-up mirror, separate shower and toilet room, nice bathtub and a very comfortable bed. A second flat screen TV was built into the bathroom mirror. A welcome gift was delivered to my room in the afternoon, with some sweets and chocolates IIRC.
In the evening I stopped for a quick drink at the Executive Lounge which was not crowded at all. I had the balcony with its fluffy plush chairs practically to myself.
At night the room was quiet except for a brief period of fireworks that lit the skies at about 10 PM.
In the morning I decided to have breakfast at the hotel restaurant instead of having it in the lounge. Good decision! Wonderful selection of breads, pastries, noodle soup station, Asian foods, American foods, fruit, eggs, and … (5) kinds of bake-to-order pancakes! There were at least (4) stations and about (10) cooks preparing made-to-order breakfast items. The interior design of the restaurant and the hallway connecting it to the hotel are beautiful. Light fixtures, furniture, wall decorations, water fixtures are all unusual and stunning even if you don’t appreciate the “ultra-modern” style. The restaurant feels very cozy inside but it also has a big open deck with gorgeous views of the beach and the water.
Before departure, around 10 AM, I went to look at the infinity pool and liked it: quiet, peaceful, and almost empty.
In summary, I think Hilton Pattaya is a very fine hotel. I would not hesitate recommending it to anybody. The Pattaya city itself… well, that’s another story.

Although I did not stay at this property, I did visit a couple of times specifically for the lounge and breakfast buffet. At he time, I was a Priority Club whor*, and stayed at the Holiday Inn Pattaya; very nice property indeed, but the Hilton is more opulent. Kinda cool having that mall right in the hotel.

Review

I stayed at this property in June 2012 and i can agree with almost all the reviews I see here... the property was modern and all, but lacked service. Here is my review: http://boardingarea.com/blogs/livefr...ilton-pattaya/

Update for those interested...

I stayed in July 2012. (second stay)

Executive lounge is open again.

Pool - as described.

Noise - facing North (towards Bangkok/ you can see the pool) club noise is a problem. Facing South (towards Pattaya sign) was not a problem.

Breakfast - very good breakfast buffet. Not great, but very good.

Club lounge - cold if you are in shorts and a polo.

Overall - very convenient - 10 baht gets you where you want to go. Very stylish. Not built for practicality - no outlet next to bed.

If you go... ask for a room facing south for quiet. grab snacks at the 7-11 next door or in the basement of the mall grocery store.
