I have a reservation at a property that dosn't exist

Well technically it exists, it just isn't open yet.

I made a reservation for April 3 at the Hampton Inn Arroyo Grande online a few weeks ago. I go on the website now and it says "Accepting reservations starting July 1". I called central reservations and they said that they pushed back the opening date and suggested I call the hotel directly. Of course the local number just rings and rings, no answer. Anybody have this happen to them? Will they have to walk me somewhere else? If they don't call should I just show up to whats going to be a construction site?

If they are not open, it's unlikely there will be anyone there to walk you or offer any other sort of assistance. I'd make other plans.

They will probably walk you off a construction site.

Like a construction guy, there won't be anybody from Hilton there if they are not ready to open.

I would probably book someplace else as a backup and cancel one of them when it gets closer.

This happened to me recently also. I have a reservation in May at the new Hilton in Melbourne (Australia). In fact, I posted in the Hilton forum asking about the hotel before making the reservation. The other day I was checking the site to see if they would be offering nights for points and the front page now says they will open in June 2009. It made me wonder whether or not Hilton would have contacted me to let me know...I guess not.

I'm still holding the reservation; maybe they will open the hotel by then. If not I will book the other Hilton in town.

Thanks for the reminder. I'll be in Melbourne in mid-June and was hoping to try this new Hilton.

Let's just hope that you don't get charged as a "no-show" for a night's lodging if the hotel isn't open yet!

(Actually, I'm joking. I seriously doubt that such a thing would happen. But -- you never know!)

I still have not been contacted regarding my reservation at the Hampton. I called central again and they did confirm that the hotel will not be open and said that all they can do is book me in another hotel (at my expense) or cancel the reservation. I know Marriott policy is to "walk" you and pay for your first night if the hotel cannot fulfill your guaranteed reservation for any reason. Does Hilton have something similar? I would just assume ask for the points I would have gotten if I stayed (I was really only staying for this reason to begin with) and stay with family in the area.

I gather they will probably get around the contacting you. This happened to the Doubletree in Beijing this year, but luckily my reservation was during the Olympics, and they did open by then, although months late. I'd change your reservations, pronto. Good Luck!

The Hilton site says they are accepting reservations for dates beginning April 15.

Excellent news! I'm glad it'll be open for our May dates.
