Regular points tend to post shortly after your statement closes, as "AMERICAN EXPRESS POINT BONUS". If there's a signup bonus I don't know when or how that appears (it was too long ago to look up).

I was looking for the answer to the same question - in particular for the Surpass card, and found it on milepoint. Here's my experience:

For most cards, the points posts a couple of days after the statement ends. For the Amex though, my very recent experience is that it posts literally just 3-5 days after I met my spend requirement (not even at statement closing date, as I was expecting). I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the quick posting, to say the least.

Edit: the above is only for the signup bonus, if you were eligible for one. Regular points still post to HH account within a few days after the statement date.

Downgraded to the free version. The CSR kept asking why I wanted to downgrade, I said I can get more points with citi.
CSR: well we give you 9pts, S:they give me 10.
CSR: We offer the ability to get Gold status after 20k spend. S: They give it to me as long I have the card.
CSR: We offer Diamond at 40k. S: So do they.
S: I would like to downgrade my card now, thank you.

You should have also mentioned the Citi card has no foreign fees and it is a lot easier to get $40K in spending in since Visa is accepted at more places than Am Ex and unlike the Am Ex card, you can use the citi card internationally making getting your spending up even easier

I'm about to do the same thing. I take it that they didn't offer you anything special to try to have you keep your Surpass card (like lower annual fee or extra points)?

And don't forget the free weekend night per year after $10k spent!

i downgraded last week, they gave me 3000 points to keep the surpass, I refused them, but oddly, they still showed up in my account...

card numbers stayed the same but they do send out new cards so new expiry date and new CID/CVV.

You should. When I upgraded to the surpass my card number stayed the same and I was able to continue to use my HH Gold card until the surpass arrived.

Thanks much. The 40K signup bonus posted fairly quickly, it's the 9x/6x/3x points that haven't posted at all, despite at least one statement closing.

My closing date is the 2nd, so I'll keep checking for my August points and will call Amex if they don't show up soon...

missing points - statement changes

My surpass card statement does not show the hilton points accrual this month. No summary of point earned. I checked and it was there last month. My points have not posted. They usually post the day after my acct closes for the month. anyone else notice the change?
