HHonors Point Value

What value do you give HHonors points? I've read .006 cents (or 6/10ths of a cent). More, less, about right?

I was considering the HHonors Visa Reserve. Wanted to see how many points earned would be needed to cover the $95 fee (on top of other perks). I'm not going to do 10k spend annual since Amex is my primary.
Thanks!

Depends how you use your points and what HHonors status you are.

Some rooms only available for Diamond rewards and require lower points etc.

If you have an Amex HHonors card and are not going to spend $10k I doubt you would gain much except gold status with the Citi Reserve since the only spending advantage is 2 points per $ on travel and 4 points per $ at Hilton's compared to the free Amex plus anywhere that doesn't accept Amex.

There are existing threads on how much points are worth. Go to advanced search and search thread titles for "points worth".

I think you mean .006 dollars...or else you REALLY don;t think they are worth much

As low as .3 cents per point (25K for an $80 room), as much as 1 cpp (50K for $500 room) with the ocassional great deal using a bonus redemption - so I say you are right in the ballpark. I use a 1/3 because that's the min I know I will use them for later. But I think your answer is likely "about right."

Amex Gold RP is the primary, not the Hilton Amex. Thanks!

The funny part is, the responses on those threads say "look at these other threads for your answer..."
Which is the inspiration for my (long-standing) sig-line.
(not being a jerk. It just made me smile)

There may be a few responses that say that (especially in the main value thread to which other threads are merged) but there is an awful lot of discussion about the value of HH points in those threads. For example, in this thread:
At what dollar amount does it make sense to use HH points vs paying for a night stay?
they are 52 posts but only one is a reference to another thread.
In this thead:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...-pc-hyatt.html
there are no responses that link to any other threads.
In this thread:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...rs-points.html
they are 7 posts, only one is a link to other threads. That post is a post by me which informs the OP that there are other threads out there that have discussion on this topic so that the OP can go to those threads and see other discussion on this topic, including some very detailed posts and comparisons that FT members have put together over the years.

HHonors points are worth precisely 0.874 cents each. Anybody who tells you otherwise is wrong.

I'm going to just make up a new number for each new "what are HHonors points worth?" thread.

Yes, Diamonds do get more availabilty..... then you can see some real value. Example. Hilton in Munich during Octoberfest this year. Rooms were 400Euro, was able to use Diamond availablitly at 40,000 points.... that was a good value.

It was for a fellow Flyertalk person, who had gifted me something, in this case the miles were finally worth something reasonable!! Sometimes they are worth alot, but usually they just sit and collect dust until a personal need comes up for an expensive property!

That's the same rate as a silver would get.

I believe that is the price for PURCHASING points from Hilton, one can make an argument that is the market price.

HOWEVER: There are LOTS of ways to obtain points at MUCH lower rates (credit card min spends, Hilton stay discounts and point promotions). More importantly, there is endless discussion on the inconsistency in the number of point required to reserve a room versus the cash price.

So while there is a clear definition of the dollar value to BUY a Hilton point, the cost to EARN points, average REDEMPTION value is highly subjective, varies greatly for a given situation.
