All Hiltons required to have Exec Lounge by end of 2013?
I am at the Hilton North Indianapolis right now (thanks for the $39 rate, HH!) and was chatting with the front desk clerk.
She told me they had received a memo saying that all Hiltons would be required to have an Executive Lounge by the end of 2013 to meet a new brand standard.
I wonder whether she got that right. Has anyone else heard such a thing? It would certainly be welcome news.

Would make a lot of sense - at the moment it is very hit and miss and requires the customer to do the leg work to see what he is going to experience on arrival

They will probably be open from 5:30 to 6:30 on Mon-Thur with a cash bar. But, they will have one.

This has been the talk over the past few years.
This is why many Hilton's have become Doubletree hotels in small markets
It is true that all hotel with the Name Hilton will be required to have an Ex lounge. I think the time line is up for debate. There was a memo last year saying by the end of 2012.
If this is true, I wonder how many of the London "Hilton" branded properties would react? There are quite a few that don't have ELs and due to the old structures have little room to add them.
That aside, it would be nice for consistencies sake and would open up more options for stays (since I always try to select a property with an EL )!

I am sure they could dig up a broom closet someplace to make a lounge out of!
After thinking about it. I am not sure if this is such a great thing for folks staying in US properties. Currently, I usually stay at a property that does not have a lounge on purpose in the US. I usually get a full breakfast at the restaurant in those cases but at properties with a lounge there will be a some day week old bagels with a fight to get it. On the whole it may be a positive if true and definitely help with the brand standard.

I was thinking the same thing. With a few exceptions the breakfasts I have been offered in American Exec. Lounges has been kind of pathetic. If they are going to insist on an brand-wide standard of having a lounge they should demand certain levels of food offerings as well while they are at it.

Can't the continental breakfast in the restaurant be just as pathetic?
It sure can be. The worst continental breakfast I ever had was in the restaurant of the Conrad Condado Plaza in SJU.
Just returned from that location after a one night stay. I will take the $7 credit they give you on any meal at the joint over any lounge breakfast I have had in the US. I ordered the standard american breakfast and the total bill was about $13 before the credit. The food was quite good actually and I would pay $6 for this vs. the free lounge option in the US anyday.

Btw. are you implying that Golds that do not have access to exec lounge get a better breakfast deal than Diamonds who have to take their free bkfst there?
