While the rumored standard promo is incredibly underwhelming, at least this gives us an opportunity to earn 30K extra HHonors points by transferring the Flying Clubs miles back to HHonors.

Incorrect. You would earn 40K HH by participating this promo by choosing fixed miles, and staying other than Hampton Inn/Homewood/Home2.

15K from the bonus + 5K from the fixed base = 20K VS = 40K HH

So, that means, you must not book your stay prior to registration, it is sufficent when you register prior to the time the points are credited to your account. My account however is set to Virgin Atlantic since May 2012

Anyone able to report that racking up a few variable miles triggers a promo mileage credit as well?

Also, I'm planning on using a couple of Hampton and Homewood stays as I'm not sure I'd hit five qualifiers otherwise.

Requires 10k min miles to transfer to points, requires 4 qualifying stays during the period for those of us who do not fly VS; not sure it is worth the hassle, as I only have 3 revenue stays currently booked for the period.

Hertz gives 1K VS miles bonus per rental (even on one-day rentals). This + the $14.99 weekender special is another way to pad your VS balance (to then transfer to Hilton).

Double dipping with Virgin makes a lot sense even during non-promotional periods as you can always transfer the miles back to Hilton. You can consider it as a 2K HH bonus per stay instead of 50% bonus on base points. This works best on inexpensive one night stays at all other Hilton brands than Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites & Home2 Suites. You need to calculate it on stay by stay basis based on the revenue.

I believe it is current information. VA is one of the airlines referenced in your excerpt which offers different mile amounts per stay. At full service properties, that is 1,000 fixed miles per stay or 2 variable miles per dollar.

Assuming I do 5 stays at this hotel over this promotional period.
Each night I can earn 4000 Virgin Airline Miles (Average over 5 nights)
Approximately 1750 points for basic HHonor activity
5% cash back with Chase Freedom at hotels during october~december

Turns into 8000 HHONOR+1750 HHONOR+$3
Valuing 9750 HHONOR pts at about $65 +$3=$68......
