Amex Hilton Honors Credit Cards - bonus for both?

Can I double dip on:
1. The Hilton HHonors™ Card from American Express- Earn 50,000 HHonors Bonus Points when you spend US$750 in the first three months of Cardmembership.

2. The Hilton HHonors™ Surpass® Card from American Express
Earn 40,000 HHonors Bonus Points with your first purchase on the Card
Plus, earn 20,000 Bonus Points when you spend US$3,000 in the first three months of Cardmembership

how much would 110K HHonors Point worth?

I don't know about the double dipping part - but I just used 100,000 for 5 nights reservation at a Hampton Inn (the only thing close to relatives house).

Yes, two different cards.
Varies, about $500 fair price.

If you use them at the most aspirational properties Hilton has, you can get major value (i.e. Conrad Rangali Maldives)

Are you sure about this? I just got off the telephone with AmEx new accounts. They say that you may not have both bonuses; it's one or the other? They tell me that you can close one account, wait 90 days, then apply for the other card and collect any bonus points.

What gives?

This is correct.

Amex will NOT give you both bonuses for upgrading the card. You will get the difference between the sign on bonuses between the two cards. You can get both bonuses if you are getting TWO different cards, i.e., one for personal use and one for business. But not for upgrading.

I registered for the regular AMEX last March and got the bonus points then. I think it was 50,000 or so.

I recently upgraded and met the spending bonus for which I received 50,000 bonus points.

It seems the only part I was not eligible for was the additional 2,500 bonus points on my first 4 stays.

I am thankful I was able to receive both, but I was not expecting it. I only upgraded because I have a bunch of stays coming up and wanted the 33% bonus from the regular AMEX.

If nothing else, you can always give it a shot and revert back to the regular AMEX if it fails.

Also note, that there are many different offers for each card. Thus, your bonus points or the conditions behind the offer may vary from what others get.

Amex would anyways calculate as single hit on my credit score for double dip.

So my question is:
Should I apply 2 Amex Hilton Credit Card or
1 Amex Hilton and 1 Amex Starwood etc.

Please suggest?

Yes, I am sure. Honestly I read this and wasn't expecting the 40,000 to post from the Surpass(I haven't hit the $3,000 spend yet). They are 2 separate personal accounts.

From my account:

AMERICAN EXPRESS POINT BONUS 40,000 0 06-Jun-2012
AMERICAN EXPRESS POINT BONUS 40,000 0 24-May-2012

Yes, I only got 40,000 from the regular card. I'll live.

Funny thing is I called to try to upgrade my regular card to the Surpass to get the gold status. Since my card hasn't been open for a year, he recommended I just apply for a new card.

Very odd indeed, but I'm glad it worked out for you.

Lightbulb if you want to churn an HHonors card, go Visa

Stop worrying about the Amex and learn to love the Visa:

This card:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles...nors-visa.html

is churnable (more than 2 times per year). The Amex generally isn't churnable at all, except that: You may get an offer to upgrade to a Surpass after you've had the Amex for a while, but guess what? The first offer is likely to be lame, and only after you go for a long time (years?) ignoring the Surpass upgrade offers do they start getting better! (But AFAIK Surpass offers always involve paying an annual fee even for the first year, while churning the Visa involves no annual fee!)

Having said that, the Visa stinks for normal usage (even with the recently-increased earnings), compared to the Amex. So churn the Visa, but keep the Amex for ongoing use (and use the Amex, not the Visa, at HHonors hotels -- at least within the US* -- for the 500-point online Amex booking bonus).

(*Neither the Amex nor the Visa have 0% forex. So some people may want to use the HHonors cards only within the US.)

I will respectfully disagree with your statement. There is another Hilton thread that indicates otherwise as well. If you have had your account for over a year and if the offer presents itself when you login to your account (and you look at other cards), there is an option to upgrade your card for $3,000 spend. One of my family member was recently targeted for it - she received an email that she would get 50000 points for upgrading her account with $3k in spend. I, myself, am currently working to meet the spend for this offer.

I fully expect the the full 50,000 points as it is a "spend" bonus and not a sign-on bonus. I guess I will know and can confirm in a couple of months.

I will add, however, that I don't know what would happen exactly in the OP's situation if s/he were to apply for both at the same time.

I really appreciate all your comments/suggestion. I have been reading this forum since last month and figured out if we apply 2 Amex Card on the same day, it's counted as one credit check.

Hence I plan to apply 2 Amex Cards at the same time. I could go for:
1. The Hilton HHonors™ Card from American Express- Earn 50,000 HHonors Bonus Points when you spend US$750 in the first three months of Cardmembership.

Can someone please suggest second Amex card I cud apply together.
